Me personally, I wear skulls because I have a skull lol. I don't necessarily prefer evil skulls or the kind that has crosses involved, but I love cutesy little skulls with the bows. I think they are adorable and cool lol. I don't wear vampire shirts but I do like vampire teeth necklaces. I don't even anywhere near like zombies lol. And I DEFINITELY don't like demons. That's just insane and evil. So what do you guys think? Are any of these, minus the demons, acceptable? Thanks.

Probably a better place to ask this would've been the 'Christian advice' section, but no harm no foul.

Anyways, I don't think zombies, vampires skulls etc are considered bad at all or something to be avoided. They are(minus the skulls), after all, fictional and primarily used in entertainment/fictional media.

But if you have personal convictions about it, I'd avoid it.

Skulls while they are a part of God's creation usually symbolize death and or darkness. Death is the result of sin. In Revelation 21:4 says, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." Not sure why you want to hold on to something that God will eventually destroy or put away from His eternal kingdom. Adam and Eve died only because they disobeyed God's command. The skull is representative of death. Death is something that Jesus conquered with his resurrection. Death is associated heavily with dark rock groups, etc. Just follow Jesus more and His good ways, and in time, things like skulls will not even make sense to have around your home anymore.

Actually, other translations list it as 'Abstain from all forms of evil'--not all appearances.

Second, some context behind the verse you quoted;

1Thess 5:16-1Thess 5:22 NASB "Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not quench the Spirit; do not despise prophetic utterances. But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; abstain from every form of evil."

It's not talking about 'looking' evil. It's talking about abstaining from evil things. Furthermore, skulls do not always represent death and darkness--nor is it right to consider death always 'dark'. I mean, we are told to 'die to sin', yes? The pinnacle of our faith was the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ(which, by the way, the place he was crucified at--Golgotha--is also referred to, biblically, as 'the place of the skull')

I also think it's a little silly to avoid skulls, since...you know, we all have one.

Lastly, pain and suffering is considered purposeful and part of God's will in order for us to grow and develop. It was also, again, a crucial aspect of Christ's suffering--so I don't think it's particularly wrong to have a sort of respect or appreciation for these things, so long as it's not harmful or taken in a wrong light.

It doesn't have to be spiritual--when Paul says "whatever," he is reaching into the popular culture of the people. But does it yet express something noble? Does it express something true? Right? Pure? Lovely? Admirable? Excellent or praiseworthy? If it doesn't make a clear expression of such positive traits, it's probably not an expression that a Christian wants to make or entertain.

They give me a bad vibe and I somehow identify them with "evil forces" because they do kind of represent "negative power" (lifeless and indifferent) triggering a fearful emotional feeling.

They definitely are contrary to the Fruits of the Spirit which I want to shine through me. I feel bad that kids have gotten used to them and people love to flaunt them. For me, I think it makes them look inhuman.

No offense, but I believe there are several reasons why a person may defend the use of skulls.

(a) They have very little knowledge of the occult, or
(b) They have not studied God's Word enough in depth to truly know that God wants us to sell out in following Jesus and His good ways and not the dark ways of this world, and that we must be holy and separate from the world, or:
(c) It is a combination of the the two above options.​

We are living in the last days, my friends. Many have a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof. They are lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God (See: 2 Timothy 3:1-9). We clearly see in Revelation 21:4 that God's will is to forever put away death. Skulls are usually associated with death metal groups, and those who are into the occult. If we are servants of the light, why would want to be mistaken for being a part of such darkness? It makes no sense.

If you walked into a house with skulls all over the wall (real skulls) you would think something was not right. Well, I sure hope that would be the case. If not, you need to check that "Moral Compass" or ask the Lord for the gift of discernment.

We see in Scripture that God is not in favor of us marking our lives with death.

"You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the LORD" (Leviticus 19:28).​

We are to focus on that which is good and not that which is evil.

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." (Philippians 4:8).​

No doubt if you wore skulls to church, many who are seeking to follow Jesus purely will be offended because death represents darkness, evil, and death.

"Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed:" (2 Corinthians 6:3).​

Some believers save with fear and they even hate the garment spotted by their sinful deeds.

"And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh." (Jude 1:23).​

I mean, stop and think for a moment. If a person in a business suit who was clean and had nicely combed hair, and was clean shaven and smelled nice walked up to your door, you would have a good impression of that person. But if a person walked up to your door, and they had skulls all over their body and they were wearing a cloak and they had piercings, and tattoos and looked like somebody who was a part of horror movie or cult, you would be a little on edge that this person was at your door. This is because one's outward appearance can sometimes reflect what is on the inside of a person. While this is not always the case, it is our human nature to shun those who look like the kind of person who can harm us. Well, unless one hangs out with these kinds of people, then that is another matter. But what fellowship does light have with darkness?

Colossians 3:1-2 says,

1 "If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."​

Colossians 3:9-10 says,

9 "seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:" (Colossians 3:9-10).​

Romans 12:1-2 says,

1 "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God"​

I trust my King James Bible when it says in 1 Thessalonians 5:22 when it says the following,

"Abstain from all appearance of evil." (KJV).​

I say this because most of your Modern Translations seek to water down the Trinity, the deity of Christ, the blood atonement, holy living, etc.

While Modern Translations are helpful in updating the 1600's English in the KJV, they should not be our final word of authority. Wescott and Hort (who are known occultists) had created a Greek text upon which most of all your Modern Translations are based upon. It's why the devil's name has replaced certain holy things within the Bible. But of course, people will not want to see this. They want to defend their own way or path. My encouragement is to trust God and His Word in what it says. For faith comes by hearing, and hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17).

I think the guideline is to be decent rather than old fashioned.

Customs change and fashions develop, don't they?

I think the scripture encourages us to adorn ourselves in a respectable, dignified, and graceful style that pleases and glorifies God.

I'm not really sure how a sense of fashion that has skulls, vampires, and zombies could portray respect, dignity, and grace.

I'm not really sure how a sense of fashion that has skulls, vampires, and zombies could portray respect, dignity, and grace.

People have different personalities and fashion senses. I don't think God cares if someone wears a fan-based or design T-shirt. I think this is more of the rigid rules Christians keep adding on as they try to go with what they think is acceptable by their culture, decade and personal beliefs.

Coming from a Christian who works in a casual environment and has worked with co-workers and managers with visible tattoos, septum rings and baphomet t-shirts:

Does it truly represent who you are in Christ? Because who you are in Christ is the truest version of you.

Technically speaking a skull is just a skull. So technically its ok to wear. That said skeletons are often associated with things like heavy metal, horror type movies...etc. So often skulls/skeletons are seen as that. I guess it depends on what your skull looks like and what its about. I had a shirt that had a beautiful skull on it with roses on either side. It represented nothing. But after I got married I got rid of it, my wife felt uncomfortable with it.
