I've only had butterflies or whatever you want to call it once in my life, and the guy in question is not a Christian and way too young for me. I keep trying to lift up my fears about relationships to God but somewhere in the back of my mind I keep remembering how I felt when I saw said guy and wondering whether it was a sign from God and that he's just waiting for the perfect timing for us. What are your opinions on things like this? Maybe the feeling is just all in my head? Any advice would be great!

Butterflies are normal when you really like someone. I don't think they're a sign from God. I've gotten butterflies for women that were definitely not God's intended partner for me. The Bible makes it clear that it's not God's intention for believers and unbelievers to be romantically involved. Have you given him the gospel?

Just a bodily reaction.

God made my body, so the reactions are intentionally there placed by Him. Since it's a bodily reaction, though, it doesn't mean it always happens towards the right people or at the right time.

Either way, how could it be from God when the person in question was not even a Christian? The truth of God's word trumps feelings every time. As believers we need to live according to The Bible.

Reactions happen because they're triggered. It doesn't mean the thing that triggered it is the right thing, or that the reaction itself is bad, it just means it was a wire that got tripped.

You can smell icing, and start looking around for a cupcake. However, it turns out to be an icing scented candle. It doesn't mean your nose isn't working right, or that you're supposed to eat the candle. It just means that the similarly scented candle tripped the same wire that means sweet food.

Basically that "butterflies" are just a reaction. It can get tripped by your mind thinking you have met a match, for example.

This does not mean that the person is really a match, or that the feeling (butterflies) is wrong because the person isn't a match. It's just a reaction.

The "butterflies" feeling in your stomach is part of the physical reaction anxiety/nervousness, you are essentially feeling the emotion in your stomach. When something stressful occurs, whether it be good or bad, your brain shoots adrenline into your system and you kick into "FFFF mode" (flight, fight, freeze, or frolic). This causes many affects, one of which is diverting blood away from your "non-essential" systems, one of which is your intestine. The "butterfly" feeling is the sensation the stomach is reporting to your brain. It's not really any more of a sign from God than why we feel sadness in your chest.

I'm with KitKatMatt on this one. God created us to have that reaction to certain people. So it can be the start of a great relationship.
But that doesn't mean its God's desire for us to marry that person. But it is a fun experience to have and can also be confusing at the same time.

So its no full prove way to evaluate a relationship.

Not meant to be. Just a bodily reaction.

God created us to have that reaction to certain people. So it can be the start of a great relationship.

God meant us to suffer? God granted it to us, true: but by doing so God has made us suffer - I am extremely bitter about it. So do not listen to me.

Oh yeah definitely a sign from God. I didn't have butterflies, but my heart was on fire the last time. Amazing, I was so sure that God did it, there were a few things that were huge red flags, but God was just waiting for the right timing.

It's just hormones, nothing more. My sign from God was that He just said: NO!
