Bob Marley - All relegious people should listen!

I know Bob Marley is a Rastafarian, and therefore belives the Haile Sallessie is God, but his music is the most relegious and spiritual I have ever heard. It has a sense of faith about it. He is truely one of the greatest relgious songwriter and singer/guitarist. I recommend to you all the album Exodus or Burnin', even better, the Legend album is an alround good 'un! For some of you who do not know what sort of music it is, it is reggae. He's Jamacan and was brought up fatherless and in poverty. He rose to become one of the most influencial political and relegious figures in the Carribean! I often listen to his music when thinking about God or reading the Bible. :prayer:

On another note, I want to be a christian, but I am yet to believe whole heartedly in the releigion and the fact of Jesus being the Ssun of God. I don't even know if God exsists... please help me. :help:

What do the rest of you think about Bob Marley and his music?

Marley's music is terrific, I agree-- if only I hadn't been horribly overexposed to "Legend" in college, I might listen to his music more frequently. Seriously, everyone and their mother had that album, and would always play it when smoking pot-- maybe they figured it would give them a more authentic "spiritual experience" or something... I cringe now when I hear "No Woman, No Cry" or "Three Little Birds"-- the two songs I would always hear white boy wannabe-rastafarians singing in their faux-jamaican accents and ratty dreads. A shame, really...

Marley was truly a musical Legend. We can see hints of Christianity in his music. The Rastafarians actually had the Bible, or at least the Old Testament. In Marley's songs sometimes we will hear something like "The stone that the builder refused, will become the head cornerstone" Sound like the Bible? You bet! A song of his called "The Rivers of Babylon" (Sublime covered this also) is from Psalm 138, speaking of the Jews lamenting during the Babylonian captivity period. I also heard that Bob became a Christian toward the end of his life. I wish I could find where I'd read this.

Yes he is.

In his last years, dying young of cancer, Marley underwent a remarkable spiritual transformation (evident in his music also) culminating in his baptism; his Orthodox funeral in 1981 was attended by tens of thousands of mourners.

He came to know Christ and was baptized late in life.

I don't mean to be a doubter, but the same is said about Darwin and has since been disproven. Marley is, by Rastafarian beliefs, a prophet. Would people still consider him a prophet knowing that he renounced his beliefs?

They say that Darwin renounced his theories and said he believed in God on his deathbed, right? Well we can never know for sure because we were not there.

But Marley was baptized in an Orthodox church, and his funeral proceeded in Orthodox fashion.

So its a lot different - in Marley's case there are many public witnesses to this, with Darwin its 4 or 5 people around his deathbed.

The Rastafari theology is really all over the place, its really not good theology - not internally consistent - and since Marley was such an exemplary Rasta for most of his life he is like a role model to younger Rastas. I doubt that in Rastafari communities its highly publicized that Marley was baptized into the Orthodox church.
