The Right Reverend Mariann Edgar Budde, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, delivered the sermon at the Service of Prayer for the Nation at the cathedral.

Near the end of her sermon, Budde directly spoke to Trump, who was seated in the front row alongside his wife, Melania, and Vice President J.D. Vance and his wife, Usha.

Women can't be Bishops or Priests so her opinion doesn't matter.
From my Catholic perspective, I agree. I also don't agree with the Episcopal Church on LGBT, illegal immigration so forth and so on.

Considering you don't even have to believe in Christianity to be an Episcopalian, I'd say it's a church which can safely be ignored.

Why do you think Riley thinks the Episcopalian Church is not another Christian Church?

I wonder what newly installed cardinal archbishop McElroy would have said instead?

Sorry.

I don't. Let me clarify what I meant. One cannot assume members of the Episcopalian Church are Christian, especially it's leadership as it's a church which tolerates non belief in Christian Doctrines like the resurrection or virgin birth. So their opinions (especially on social values) dont really matter in my opinion.

Well if it goes against Christian belief and practice and just picking and choosing what is applicable or not then I would consider it false teaching under the guise of Christianity. Sort of making up your own version and calling it the same faith. I
Have no doubt there are many Christians in a variety of churches that go the cafeteria route and outright false teachings. But I often look at them as separated brethren. Do I care what they say? Yes I do simply because I think the witness is not good and causes a lot of confusion.

Ah, I can agree with you on that. It’s a shame because the book of common prayer is beautiful and useful.

I accept them as Christian regardless of what one bishop or priest might say.

Do you all have something against mercy? Or only when a woman in a collar calls for it?
Is it mercy when some actions that are sins are called good? Or is something backwards there whether or not the person with the collar is a woman or not?

I watched the sermon. The Trump family, along with JD Vance and his wife all look very bored.

The Bishop did not address actions as sins....

She made a plea for mercy for those who are living in fear. Her plea is based firmly on the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Christ didn't seem to have a problem showing mercy to people in prison. Mercy is about compassion, not judgement.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ ... “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

The Bishop specifically referenced the Sermon on the Mount: "Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy" and noted "Jesus went out of his way to welcome whom his society deemed as outcast."

Her sermon addressed three main themes required for what she called the "foundations of [national] unity":
1) Honoring the inherent dignity of every human person 2) Honesty and 3) Humility.

I sure hope they have mercy on all of us straight men who were born with Hefnerian style, polyamorous tendencies...................................................... Yep. I said it. The ever permeating, effervescent modern truth.

And people worry mostly about what the LGBTQ+ crowd is doing and saying????? Seriously?

It's time to get our repentant heads on straight. And I'm speaking to the Moral "Majority" of the Right.
