In case you haven't heard the news, there's an incoming adminstration that has vowed to weaponize the justice department with vengence against perceived foes. The pardons are described as precautionary and blanket.
It is what happens when the lesser/greater (depending on perspective) of two evils gets elected. Evil wins either way.
