Best Study Bible?

After reading through various translations of the Bible I came to the conclusion that my favorites right now are the HCSB and the NKJV (with the NASB and ESV following those two).

I currently have a Study Bible but back when I bought it (2007) my eyesight must have been a lot better than it is now. The font appears to be about 8 (possibly 9) with the notes in probably 5 or 6 font. Whatever it is, I need to move to a Study Bible that has at least an 11 size font (with notes at least 8 or so).

So I would like to get a Large Print Study Bible in one of those translations, but didn't realize there were so many types of Study Bibles: Scofield, Holman, Charles F. Stanley, Life Application, MacArthur, Jeremiah, Apply the Word, Spirit Filled Life, as well as probably numerous others.

I'm not sure all of these are available in large print in the HSCB or NJKV, but what are some of the best types of Study Bibles?

I appreciate your help!

Thomson Chain Reference has good material,(if you can read the print).

I don't like the idea of depending on study Bibles, though, because after all it's the text of Scripture rather than notes that are inspired.

There have been significant changes to Holman in recent years, including a name change:

In June 2016 B&H Publishing announced a revision of the translation called the Christian Standard Bible (CSB).[11] The CSB print edition began appearing in March 2017 with the electronic edition already available. The 2017 edition of CSB returned to the traditional practice in English Bible versions, rendering the tetragrammaton with a title rather than a proper name, thus removing all 656 appearances of the personal name of God- Yahweh. Now Adonai (Hebrew for Lord) and the tetragrammaton are both translated by the same English word. This was a major reversal of the translation committee direction over the previous decade, of highlighting God's personal name in Scripture. As stated in the introduction of the HCSB: "Yahweh is used more often in the Holman CSB than in most Bible translations because the word LORD in English is a title of God and does not accurately convey to modern readers the emphasis on God's name in the original Hebrew."

Scofield was one of the, if not the, first modern Bibles to incorporate a set of study notes. (I think it was the Geneva Bible, long ago, that also did so.) The Scofield had enormous Evangelical impact and has been criticized because of its extreme Dispensational POV. It will pay to look into the theological leanings of the authors of whichever study Bibles you are interested in.

Thanks for the information! I saw that an online Bible Bookstore had most of their HCSB Bibles on sale for about 80% off so I checked into the reasoning and discovered what you mentioned. In comparing the HCSB to the CSB I prefer the HCSB. I know that in the original text He, Him, etc. weren't capitalized when referring to God, but I like the fact that HCSB does it. So I bought a couple copies of the HCSB for 80% off (two large print ones, one of which was a thinline, and a journaling Bible). Unfortunately they didn't have a large print Study Bible in the HCSB.

I appreciate the info on the Scofield!

So you're set up now?

No, I wouldn't say that!

I have a couple apps on my phone, but I want an actual hard copy of a Study Bible! Except for the fact I had trouble reading the one I have comfortably, I loved reading it the last two days. Having a hard copy makes me really get into the Word of God by keeping mr more focused than I do on an electronic device!

Thanks for the help!

Instead of a Study Bible, maybe I just need a somewhat larger print version of a Bible Commentary!

I've got numerous translations of the Bible in larger print, I just need the "study" information to go along with it. So I figure with a Commentary, it might have larger print than the comments in a Study Bible, and I could just use it along side the Bibles I currently have.

Is there one you could recommend?

As always, thanks for the helpful input!
