I was thinking of getting a Matthew 23:12 tattooed on my chest but backwards so it would be read properly when looking in a mirror. I've heard that things backwards are sometimes viewed as satanic so I was wondering what the general consensus was with my idea? Okay to do? Or no good?

Thanks

I don’t have any body markings. I considered getting Ani L'Dodi, v'Dodi Li (Song of Songs 6:3) in Hebrew on my ring finger but decided against it.

Tattoos are used for identity purposes. I think its best to avoid them. But to each his own.

I just write verses that I want to read every day on sticky notes & stick them on my mirror. It's the same concept but a lot cheaper & way less painful.

Hello & welcome.

You really take this "living epistles" thing seriously...! ;)

(The driver in front of you will be able to read it correctly, too, in their rear-view mirror, like "Ambulance...")

Go with your conscience. If you are the only one seeing it, who cares? You could ask the Lord to write the truth on your heart. Once it is there, nothing can remove it.

The LORD says making tattoos is a sin. Besides you’re not treating your body as the temple of the Holy Ghost if you do one for it harms your health.

No, looking things backward isn't satanic. This is likely some sort of funky idea based on the nonsense claims made by some that certain vinyl records when played in reverse have evil satanic words in them. This sort of thing goes back to the Beatles where some people claimed that if you played one of the songs backward said "Paul is dead" as "evidence" that Paul McCartney had died and secretly replaced by someone else. If that sounds stupid, it's because it is. The thing about the human brain is that it is a fascinating bit of machinery, and we as humans are experts at pattern recognition. It's what makes us so good at many things, such as learning language, keeping calendars. But we're so good at it, in fact, that we often see things that don't actually exist. We see patterns when there aren't any--seeing images in the moon, or the clouds, or the various constellations of stars. Or even that crazy lady that swears she saw the Virgin Mary on the back of a slice of pizza.

The phenomenon of hearing messages in backward music is fundamentally the same phenomenon of mishearing lyrics. Usually in order to "hear" it you have to be primed to hear it. Once someone tells you that Elton John's lyric of "hold me closer tiny dancer" sounds like "hold me closer Tony Danza" you'll never un-hear the misheard lyric again (trust me).

But, no, a backward tattoo isn't evil. Backward isn't an evil thing, it's just backward. And as such if you want a tattoo that you can read in the mirror, well that's just an artistic, personal choice on your part. Nothing more, nothing less.

Tattoos are the Graffiti of the ungodly, written on the walls of the Temple of God.

Making it a Bible verse doesn't make it any better.

Oh yeah and this too.

Lev. 19:28
Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.

Are you talking about this tattoo for a man or a woman?
