Depeche Mode, as a whole, are not gay. Martin Gore is, by most accounts, gay. However he is the driving creative force behind the band. The one original member of Depeche Mode (who left early on and i forget his name) who went on to form Erasure is gay. Apart from this, Depeche Mode are not gay.

Asking if Depeche Mode is christian or not is a bit rediculous because it implies you've never heard the song 'personal jesus'...which is hard to believe.

I wouldn't take "Personal Jesus" as an anti-Christian song. I see it as criticising the hypocritical televangelists that were around so much in the 80s.

Now, if you'd said "Blasphemous Rumours", it'd be a little more convincing. Of course, I just see that song as voicing disillusionment, not vitriol or rejecting one's faith.

Anyway, no, their music does not push a 'homosexual agenda' (however, if you're talking about the gay club scene, I'm pretty sure their music is popular there, but so are a lot of other heterosexual artists'). The two songs I think that might get misconstrued in that fashion most often are "Master And Servant" and "Strangelove", but those are mostly about sexual politics. I mean, if they did push a homosexual agenda, why would "Enjoy The Silence" have been recorded?

(great, now I want to listen to "Enjoy The Silence", and I don't have it on my computer at the moment)

I agree with your assessment of Blasphemous Rumors. I always thought of it as someone who has had some bad things happen in life and is upset and trying to deal with it.

My friend was saying that Depeche MOde are gay. Is that true? or are they Christian?

(I hope we wont go into any discussions as to why it matters to me, please)

So you can't be a Christian if you're gay? Since when?

I don't know, and I don't care. I just love their music for what it is--music.

I don't know, but listening to DM or Erasure (esp Erasure) make me feel gay.

LOL

Also, whoever said that Martin Gore is gay is wrong: he is married to a woman and has at least one child.

Elton John married a woman.

Come to that a dear friend of mine was married with kids and then realised he was gay.

That said you could be right about martin Gore, just thought I'd point out married with kids isn't always a reliable guide.
