Anyone familiar with Jeff Cavins?

Him and Scott Hahn are doing similar work, it seems.

Just knowing that he went Catholic - Protestant - Catholic makes me a bit leery if I'm honest. Like, did he return to Catholicism packing some Protestant 'nuggets' thinking Catholicism could benefit from that stuff?

Yes. I know about him. I recommend his The Great Adventure Catholic Bible Study.

I've never heard of Ascension Press, so I don't know how reputable it is, but their website says this in their bio about Cavins:

I hate to say this because it's judgmental on my part, but when he was on ewtn I found him to have a decidedly "Protestant style," if that makes any sense. I always felt like I was watching some baptist youth pastor. The material he taught was good. I think it was just his delivery that bothered me. I remember that occasionally he would sub for Mother Angelica on her show. I turned the tv off when that happened.

Yo - i didnt quite leave the church for 7 years - but i was delinquent.
I kinda sorta quit going and sinning for 7 years and then returned.
Sometimes - reverts are very strong in faith... after being pulled back.

I'm doing this course now. Started on Book of Revelations. He is an absolute bottomless pit of knowledge on the bible. Would prefer to be studying Gospels/Wisdom section though, as this is my first time to study.

I can see the Protestant style too. I'm not sure what to think of him. Interesting how ex-Protestants are now teaching us the Bible. My bible study group is also led by an ex-protestant. Are we seeing a trend of Catholic parishes priotorising the Bible more now? Australia is behind the U.S. on this I admit.

What if he went back to being a Protestant pastor? Now that would be a shock.

To be fair to Jeff, he said he didn't leave the catholic church for theological reasons, but because he had a falling out with his biological father.

Maybe it's because he lets people know that he used to be a Protestant, and it colors your perception of him.
