I see what you're saying, but "conflict" and "bad" things don't need to be physical. When you think of the greatest literature in the world often nothing physically bad happens to the characters. I realize it is harder to write and engage readers with subtler versions of conflict, but maybe this growth as a writer, is where you are being led.
True. My story takes place during a galactic war, and several characters get hurt along the way, because they're fighting for their lives... but the main theme of the book isn't that, it's how they end up finding a home and family and escaping the fighting. I dunno. I'm scared to even touch a scene of logical, realistic "this is a battle so yes someone got banged up a bit."
I think this thread is starting to move away from OCD and into a totally different topic, but at the same time, I'm still a little bit concerned as to how much my OCD is playing into this and how much I might be over thinking it.
