“Also if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not win the prize unless he competes according to the rules. The hard-working farmer ought to be the first to receive his share of the crops. Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.” (2 Timothy 2:5-7 NASB’95)

A large majority of people today are teaching a gospel message which teaches that, under the New Covenant, we do not have to obey any rules, since we are not under the Old Covenant Law. But the New Covenant is not lawless just because God did away with all the Old Covenant liturgical, ceremonial, sacrificial, purification, and dietary laws and restrictions, including the law that says that all males must be circumcised (Galatians 5:1-24; see also Titus 2:11-14; Ephesians 4:17-24; 1 John 3:4-10).

All throughout the New Testament writings we are taught that our salvation from sin and our eternal life with God are contingent on us having a faith in Jesus Christ which results in us dying with Christ to sin, not just once, but daily, and us walking (in conduct, in practice) in obedience to our Lord’s commands under the New Covenant. We still have to obey God and what he instructs us that we are to do, and that we are not to do (Romans 6:1-23).

Yes, we are not saved by our own fleshly works. There is not anything that we can do in and of ourselves to ever be right with God and to have the hope of salvation from sin and eternal life with God. Our faith and our salvation are gifted to us by God, and they come from God, and they are persuaded of God. But since they are from God, and not from us, they will align with God’s expressed will and purpose for our lives (Ephesians 2:8-10).

And God persuades us as to his holiness and righteousness, and of our sinfulness, and of our need to die with him to sin and to now walk in obedience to his commands as part of genuine faith in Jesus Christ. For Jesus said that not all who call him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) God’s will. For many who profess him will hear him say, “I never knew you. Depart from me you workers of lawlessness,” because they did not obey God (Matthew 7:21-23; 1 John 2:3-6).

And he said that if anyone would come after him, that he must deny self, take up his cross daily (die daily to sin) and follow him in obedience. For if we hold to our lives of living in sin and for self, we will lose them for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and walk in obedience to our Lord’s commands, by the grace of God, in the power of God, then we have the hope of salvation from sin and eternal life with God. But if we deny him by how we live, he will deny us when he returns (Luke 9:23-26).

Bombs are bursting. Night is falling.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Trust Him with your life today.
Make Him your Lord and your Savior.
Turn from your sin. Follow Jesus.
He will forgive you of your sin;
Cleanse your heart, made new within.

Men betraying: Our trust fraying.
On our knees to God we’re praying,
Seeking God to give us answers
That are only found in Him.
God is sovereign over all things.
Nothing from His mind escaping.
He has all things under His command,
And will work all for good.

Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.

Men deceiving: We’re believing
In our Lord, and interceding
For our nation and its people
To obey their God today.
He is our hope for our future.
For our wounds He offers suture.
He is all we need for this life.
Trust Him with your life today.

Matthew 22:
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[c] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[d] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

When we love in God's love, we walk in obedience. There is no disobedience in his love.

Christ shows us a new practice and mechanism of lawful practice. That practice is through goodness/love. It is not lawless, it is governed by a standard of goodness/love that Christ sets but it is shown as lawful practice in that the goodness/love itself fulfills the law. For example Christ says in Mat 12:12 that it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath. This is consistence with Christ's law in Mat 22:37-40 or Paul's perspective of Christ's law fulfilling law (Gal 5:14) as well as other texts.

this shows us a lawful standard outside of the letter through the mechanism of goodnesss. Law is not forgotten or thrown away, it is kept through a new standard found in Christ and that standard is lawful.
