10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12 That they all might be damned who believed no the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Q: What need is there for God to send a strong delusion to those who are already perishing? Wouldn't this have the effect of holding them in place in their attitudes toward God and doesn't this conflict with scripture that states God desires all sinners to come to repentance?

Because the power of God was being manifested in the earth like it had not been since the time of Elijah. And these works of power were confirming the word of the Lord with signs and wonders following. But God was also allowing demonic signs and wonders lest the wicked become "forced" into believing the truth. He was allowing Satan to display counter signs and wonders to give those who were wicked in their hearts a way to justify continuing to believe the lie rather than feel forced to believe the truth, though their hearts were not in it and didn't truly love God.

I have several full studies written on this which I could send you; i.e. on what was actually going on historically at the time these words were written that would help you understand this passage much better. But that would be at your request.

God does desire all sinners repent
but we must read all the scrips.................it makes him furious when they reject him despite the fact
he only desired them to be saved.
OUR REPENTANCE GIVES GOD THE GLORY
and HE desires and deserves all worship.
even if we all ended up in hell, still GOD is worthy.
BUT THIS too is why I thank him so,
instead of the death sentence this wicked pig desereved............his grace appeared
led me to the Son and put the LOVE of truth in my heart
Then its up to us.........if we Love something more than him, we truly fall away.

we must learn and have our will become all about HIS WILL.

Near^ where you quoted from, or elsewhere,
in God's Own Word,
He tells He sends a delusion so they believe their own lies.

No conflict with His Own Plan and Purpose and Salvation in Jesus Messiah.

Besides also, He Does As He Pleases, Perfect in Judgment Always, as well as Perfect in Love and in Mercy.

Oh, just re-read the OP.
He says right in what you posted all that is needed to understand if He grants understanding from Heaven.

OH yes, as jeff said, only now it could be said unto the whole world
how often o world would HE have gathered you as his own.
only YE would not.
the only condemnation that one has , is that LIGHT has come into the world
but whew wee, many love sin , and refuse to let it go.

JESUS says the same thing.
unto those IN the KINGDOM it is given to know
but not to those WITHOUT.
YOU MUST BELEIVE IN CHRIST to be IN the KINGDOM.
and if one rejects, hardens the heart , wont come.
HE WILL NOT GIVE any understanding to those. MOST don't see this. I see you do .

I've heard the example given that say today this Sunday the rapture occurred during many church services and many sanctuaries ended up half empty. Well the folks remaining would naturally run to the altar seeking a savior as reality set in that the Bible was true and that they had been "Left Behind" but it appears from this passage that those who've hardened their hearts will be wasting their time as they will just be seeking escape from hell and not really Jesus as Lord and Savior.

There is much more to it than this but this is just a quick example of how it could turn out on a Sunday.

Mans doctrines are deadly.
giving false hope that we are some wealth and health superior generation that escapes persecution of the tribulation.
my advice. Cease from false hope.
Instead be prepared to endure hell on earth , because we will all be betrayed very soon.
interfaith is the devils lie , for world peace
and sin is his tool to keep all captive.
Be prepared one and all to give your life , to give it all, because soon that is what we face.

"In them that shall perish" is a simple future tense of the verb to be "perish". In this respect these who perish must have been once believers who replaced the truth of Christ doth a lie and as a result the following statement is said about them.....

because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

The words received and believed is not saying that they never received or never believed the truth originally, rather they chose to turn away from the truth in the Great Falling Away from the faith, as the context in previous versus (2 Thessalonians 2:3).

Even if we look at the words in the Greek, we get the following meaning.....

They received

1209 déxomai – properly, to receive in a welcoming (receptive) way.

It is the story of the parable of the sower where these seeds did not fall on good ground and so the salvation message was NOT properly received and embraced.

Not having believed

4100 /pisteúō ("believe") is self-serving (without sacred meaning), or the believing that leads to/proceeds from God's inbirthing of faith.

Again we discover that these people who once received the word, they did not internalise it and their faith was shallow to begin with and so their faith did not lead to God regenerating them as a new creation in Christ and they happened to fall away from the faith within the great falling away context.

by all means let us also read JOHN about anti christs.........they were ONCE of us, but they LEFT...........etc
