In Thessalonians 5:17, Paul tells us to pray constantly (or unceasingly). Some one brought to my attention that not all people understand that you don’t have to stop what you are doing to pray. Just “walk with the Lord.”

This is a very precious exploration, to explore what it means to "pray constantly".

What you said about just "walking with the Lord" is perhaps the "key" to it.

This verse MUST mean something other than to always pray with our "eyes closed":

"Pray without ceasing." ~I Thessalonians 5:17

I take this verse to imply that we do, in fact, pray constantly.....But we are to do it consciously...... As our every thought and feelings are prayers heard and answered by God....... So whatsoever things are kind, lovely etc.... Think on these things......

I think prayer also means listening to what the Lord is saying to us.

I agree.

Yet, easier said than done, at least for me...

my mind and heart "wanders" from God and thoughts of Him more times than i can count.

Wouldn't this mean that i've stepped away from "walking with Him" and "wandered"?

Whats everyone take on repetitive prayer, ie your going through something and you pray about it every day or should our request only be once on the same matter.

I believe that even when we pray repetitively that God hears what is in our hearts ( i was once sooooo petrified and could not even think, so i grabbed the 23rd psalm and kept repeating it out of sheer panic).

Well, the Lord hears you the first time, though I guess I do make certain requests over and over.

I believe praying without ceasing might mean to pray for all things, but not necessarily 24 hours a day, which is impossible
I think it means to be in communication with him all day, as if he were there with you. Well, actually, he IS there with you. Put another way: Walk with the Lord.

Yeah I was once told that it was a sin to pray for the same thing, as you quoted in your post he hears the first time, however, I seem to pray for the same thing daily when I'm going through a trial, it nice to get a wider view from people on matters like this, thanks dreadnought.

Yes, "hearken unto me," He says.....And I think this to be so important, that I believe talking/listening should be a 10/90% split. I usually link praying to talking/asking and listening to an effort to stop your own talking and outside noise (which is not easy to do). But I dont mind grouping the terms together.

Hannah prayed for the same thing over and over. We are told in God's Word to keep praying, just like the widow who went persistently to the king. We have "heart cries", "griefs", hardships, and sufferings, etc. God tells us to bring them, and HE invites us to keep asking and pouring out our hearts to Him, just as Hannah did when she kept praying for a son.

Yes, "Guarding your heart and mind," casting down imaginations exalted against Christ.....resisting devils till they flee, are not easy things to do. But with the help of the Lord It will be down.... And when this work is complete in you....you will have the power to bind/loose things in heaven an on earth.... When you pray, you will know that it is answered before it was uttered......
