  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How do I stop doubting? (in prayer, or regarding the Gospel)

I've studied for decades, and read all of the Bible multiple times, continue reading the Bible daily, and now I'm praying in accordance with Mark 11:24, Jesus telling us to 'believe that you have already received it'. Yet though I will to do this, thoughts occur in my brain involuntarily such...

Please explain CCC 536 regarding Jesus and the Spirit: 'possessed in fullness' yet 'comes to rest on him'.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church says What does it mean for the Spirit 'to rest on him'? Why wasn't He already doing so? What does it mean for Jesus to possess the Spirit? What does it mean to do so 'in fullness'? Doesn't this imply one can do so partially? Does anyone possess the Spirit...

What glue should I use to re-attach the corpus to the crucifix?

Would you please tell me what glue I should use to reattach this corpus to this crucifix? (See photo.) Could you link me to the product from Amazon.com? Could you tell me what materials these appear to be? (Is it olive wood and stainless steel?)

If God made us, why do humans need to be taught by other humans how to hear God?

-- Pacwa, M (2011). How to Listen When God is Speaking. Frederick, MD: The Word Among Us Press. p. 11. Why is this not practically a stand-alone 'proof by contradiction' argument? It needs only a little fleshing out: If God created us for relationship with Him and intends to speak to us, he...

Please refute the conclusion that Judaism&Christianity are better explained by ancient aliens than Creator God.

How would you refute this argument? Would you share resources online or citations for further study? All the history and miracles in the Christian Bible (including Hebrew Scriptures, both Old and New Testament) can be explained by aliens with advanced technology who deceived humans, rather than...

What does it mean to be made in God's image and likeness? How is it not applicable to other species now? Why doesn't my dog refute Aquinas by acting?

-- Pacwa, M (2011). How to Listen When God is Speaking. Frederick, MD: The Word Among Us Press. p. 16. Other animals like DDR German Shepherds (and even other humans) exhibit intelligence suggesting rationality is a matter of degree not kind, that humans are the most advanced intelligence, not...

Why should we believe the Bible is the result of God speaking truthfully rather than advanced aliens tricking us for our own good?

-- Pacwa, M (2011). How to Listen When God is Speaking. Frederick, MD: The Word Among Us Press. p. 14. Can't the Bible also be explained by advanced aliens tricking humans? Doesn't this hypothesis contain more explanatory power as it also accounts for God's absence, silence, and refusal to...

Why must you believe God exists in order to hear Him? Doesn't that strongly imply this 'hearing God' is merely self-persuasion?

Pacwa, M (2011). How to Listen When God is Speaking. Frederick, MD: The Word Among Us Press. p. 13. I don't need to believe that any physical thing exists before I am able to hear it. How much more should God be able to make himself heard than something lacking omnipotence like a tree falling...

What is redemption? How is redemptive suffering not an unjust whipping boy?

St. John Paul II teaches that through our suffering we can share in Jesus' redemptive suffering and thereby help others achieve salvation. J. Sollier defines redemption as either 1) paying a ransom price for sin or 2) atonement for an offense. Together this raises two questions: How is...

Is male masturbation worse than female masturbation?

I'm posting here because it seems the most appropriate place for moral theology: Since Church teaching does not appear clearly defined on this point, it doesn't seem to belong in apologetics. The way I see it, male masturbation is worse because it deliberately wastes seed, whereas with women...

School Field Trip to Teacher's Lesbian Wedding Sparks Controversy

-- http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,436961,00.html How absolutely horrible. This outrage is one more indication of the deplorable state our government-run schools have become. I wish more would home school their children. They may actually go to university prepared. This indoctrination would...

Protestant Intolerance; Getting Sick of Protestant Ministries

I feel like I'm transitioning into one of those Christians who feels that he knows what's right, and others are sadly mistaken. Perhaps what's worse about this annoying attribute is that the Church not only encourages it but requires it: in the Catechism the Church teaches that it is guided by...

Skin avulsion on my shin (razor cut in shower), Middle East wars and Hurricanes

I gouged myself in the shower shaving my left leg, possibly the third time I've ever shaved my legs ... about 5 centimeters long, about 1.5 centimeters wide near the widest part, on my shin. (A skin avulsion is where a portion of skin is completely removed.) I've already asked God to heal it...

How d'you cope with being unmarried and sexually aroused?

Really, it's not fair. I'm expecting this thread to attract men, due to the sexual stereotypes engendered in our society, but I hope women will respond, since I am rather transgendered. (That is, I fit more female gender roles in USA than male gender roles, by action, mental and physical...

Another Perspective on our Presidential Candidates

I have thrown together a webpage comparing McCain and Obama's positions to Christian doctrine. I would like very much for you to read it and share your thoughts. You can use the list of links to check specific sections; see the table I made for a summary of the conclusions if you're not in the...

The Cost of Clothing and Living Conditions

I'm not sure where to post this thread: There are many boards here, and they are ambiguously labeled. I'll quote from my webpage about clothing, but it would be better to simply go there and read it, as it is formatted correctly there: when copy/pasting the text, quotation marks were stripped...

    Chess at Pogo.com, anyone?

I prefer playing standard timed games, not limitless "come back tomorrow" chess games. If you have Java installed and would like to play me in a timed chess game, reply here, PM or IM me. I typically play in Beginner rooms at www.pogo.com, a free gaming site that gives you tokens to enter into...

    What about Mark 10?

The original post may be found at Gaia Online. This morning I again read Mark 10.1-9, where Jesus addresses the issue of divorce: Footnote: (Hyperlinks to those verses are provided in the footnote at the provided website.) I had to read the following several times: I used to argue, "Of...
