Russia illegally annexed Crimea in 2014 and was threatening to invade Ukraine, which it did in 2022.
what meaning does "illegal" have here?

was 2003 USA invasion of Iraq legal? Or 2011 toppling of Libyan government? Weren't those sovereign nations?

Ukraine is a sovereign country and has a right to decide what allegances it wants to join in order to defend itself.
interesting point. did you know that much of eastern Ukraine does not want allegiance with NATO? does that matter?

Ukraine is a NATO ally and this isn't the first time NATO has helped a non-NATO member.
sure, after NATO sponsored a violent coup in 2014 that ousted a Ukrainian President who wasn't doing what NATO wanted.

again, if you saw Russia do that to Mexico you would be screaming for the US military to march in and shut it down.

Russia started an illegal and unjustifiable war of aggression against Ukraine and Russia can end it at anytime.

poorly supported narrative is poor.

this isn't a Marvel movie. there is real history behind geopolitical actions.

A better question would be, why are Trump Republicans opposed to continued aid to Ukraine?

because they care about American border security more than Ukrainian border security,

and the Ukrainian government is completely corrupt

and its a complete waste of money, and everyone knows it

those are just some reasons.

(edit: not to mention the USA $$$ is the only thing keeping the war going.. and it's getting the actual people of Ukraine slaughtered, people who are being rounded up en masse and forcibly conscripted... with "allies" like us, who needs enemies??)

Do you feel the same way about the United States support for Israel following the October 7th attack by Hamas? Should the United States stop providing billions of dollars in financial aid and military equipment to Israel to help that country defend itself against Iran, hezbollah, and Hamas?

No I do not think the US should be funding Israel's wars either. And a foreign power like Israel should not have such massive lobbying influence over American politics. It's a disgrace.

He may be an actual ‘clear and present danger’. But who is really running this country?
Exactly.

We know it is not Biden running things. We all know it now, and have known it for months.

I envision them sitting Biden in his chair at his desk, placing a pen in his hand, and helping him sign the papers that they lay in front of him.

isn't it amazing?

now there is literally a senile lame-duck president trying to start a hot war with Russia... and *crickets* from all those people who were hand-wringing over how dangerous it would be to give Trump access to nukes...

put in perspective... a regime that has just lost political power and legitimacy, a regime whose foreign policy has been democratically rejected by the people... is now in their final minutes directing missile attacks on another nuclear power.
Yes, it's amazing and abit frightening.

What's really amazIng is that we have to hope now that Putin ... Putin ... is 'a decent guy' and won't take advantage of America while she's at her weakest. (We can't depend on our cognitively impaired president to even know what he is doing!)

This is why realism in geopolitics and international relations matters. You are insisting on the same course that can only result in more death and threats to peace and stability because you don't recognize that countries have their interests.

How many more Ukranians do you desire to die for Crimea to be returned to Ukraine? Because Russia will never return it willingly. Don't offer magical solutions like Russia just walking away and giving back the land it has annexed. Tell us how much men Ukraine has to lose in order to win this conflict.

President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday formally lowered the threshold for Russia’s use of its nuclear weapons, a move that follows U.S. President Joe Biden’s decision to let Ukraine strike targets inside Russian territory with American-supplied longer-range missiles.
Russia has been firing missiles into Ukraine for more than two years now. Putin is a hypocritical, two-faced, mendacious criminal. Peace will come when he's in his proper place, in a prison cell. Praying that the Russians will see through him soon. God Bless All :)

Lis how mamy Ukranians do you want to see dead to recapture Ukranian territory and Ukranian entry into NATO?

all I can say is thank God your ideology was roundly defeated in this presidential election. Most of America does not have a rabid hatred of Putin, nor do they want a world war over a border dispute with Ukraine.

Okay so you want to assinate Putin. Yet that is unlikely to happen and even if that does happen there is no garuntee Russia ends the war. It's always possible an actual Russian Ultranationalist takes power in that instance.

Presuming that doesn't happen and the war continues and you want to escalate it. Thousands of Ukranians will die, right? If not tens of thousands. Is this an acceptable sacrifice?

To be put on trial, all his hidden crimes brought into the light of day. Also his good friends Kim Jon Un and Ayatollah Al Khamenei. God Bless You :)

Alright, murder him then.

So you'd like to start WW3 and engage in Total war until all the enemies of the USA are in prison? How many dead enemies do you think that would require? How many, Russian, Chinese and other lives need to be dealt with first before we're able to arrest Putin and Xi?

Are you prepared to die on the Frontline? Or do you just want others to die on your behalf?

I'm not sure who the enemies of the USA are, you should ask an American. Kim Jon Un and Ayatollah Al Khamenei have committed many atrocities and are great persecutors of Christians. I have met a North Korean believer escaped over here who had friends and relatives back there murdered for no other reason than they were Christians. North Korea regularly tops the list given by various Christian groups as the worst persecutor of Christians in the world. Would it diminish you just to agree that Kim Jon Un is a bad man?

. I didn't run for president though.

Most of America does not have a rabid hatred of Putin

Hate does not look good on a believer. But they should rightly be wary of Putin given his track record. Maybe when the Donald steps off the flight from Moscow waving a piece of paper with Putin's signature they can applaud. It's very unusual for a dictator to break an agreement after all. God Bless You :)

In other words, should Ukraine attack Russian territory with US ATACMS missiles, Russia could retaliate by bombing Estonia or Greece since they belong to NATO.
Maybe someone should ask Putin why it's ok for him to rain missiles down on Ukraine, but when Ukraine fires a missile back that's not ok. It's ok for Putin to use North Korean and Iranian military equipment to attack Ukraine, but Ukraine can't use American or European military equipment in response. God Bless You :)

Biden allowing the use of these missiles against Russia is yet one more step toward total war. They continue to paint Putin into a corner he will be forced to fight out of. Foolish, foolish, foolish. I believe him when he says he may use nuclear weapons against NATO states if mainland Russia is attacked massively.

Yes lis, you are correct. But this is an escalation. It needs to scale down... not escalate. If he chooses to use a nuke... he will be wrong... but still, a nuke has been used. We will be forced to retaliate in kind. And on and on it goes. This is was MAD was all about.
Peace saint.

I have no problem with considering Kim Jon Un a bad man. I do have a problem with linguist warhawks advocating wars and the escalations of war to arrest said man.

Your position on the Ukraine war reflects immaturity. It's magical thinking to suggest getting rid of Putin or that Russia will just walk away from this conflict. It is obvious to anyone that if you want Ukraine to achieve its wargoals then Ukranian blood must be paid and when I ask the warhawks how much blood is required they deflect. They are ashamed of having to say that yes Ukraine membership into Ukraine will cost them tens of thousands, If not hundreds if thousands in human lives.

Why does this incredibly dangerous US proxy war need to be won for the US? What does it gain them except that Russia and China are closer together and thus more dangerous together?
