Here's something that I absolutely can't stand and am tired of but keep hearing over and over again I want people and the entertainment to stop using Jesus's name in vain.

Why would you expose yourself to that? If people can swear I can worship, praise and give honor to God. They hate that and they will stop swearing around us.

They don't know him.
I had a friend/acquaintance who persistently did the same. One day he said it again, I looked at him and asked, 'John, you love your wife right?' He gazed at me in puzzlement. 'Yes, he replied.'
How would you feel if every time I was annoyed I spewed out, 'Dixie Damn?'
It didn't change him none and we weren't close friends anyway. But, it let him know where I stood. Which in his Godless opinion was likely a pile of manure.
To this day he must think I'm a fool.
I know he is.
He was one of those clowns that would say, I would rather be in hell with all my friends, they are much more fun anyway.
Now depending on the church we attend his last statement may sadly be true.

I once made a complaint to the BBC about some of the individuals in a TV programme here in the uk called TOP GEAR, it was Jesus this and Jesus that. And the response i got from the BBC was simply that these are the times that we live in and such words have become acceptable in society. I was rather flabbergasted by that response. And made me really stop and think about how Godless society has become. God is now an after thought.

Because we live in a society where all consequences for blasphemy or using the Lord's name in vain have been neutered. Why be surprised?

I have not seen a worse example than the last opening of the olympics. And that's knowing that most of the music industry is Satanic.

If all Christians stopped watching TV, it would make a huge difference because advertisers would put pressure on TV programmers to move to Christian friendly programming. It's all about the numbers. By watching this blasphemous garbage, you are ensuring that it continues.
If the salt has lost its savor, it's only good for being thrown out and trampled by men. Are you that salt? Or the good salt that preserves? If you have to keep watching, then make note of the advertisers and send them a letter or an email of complaint. I did that once, years ago, and got back a very concerned letter. But I could not get one single Christian to join me in my campaign. So I threw my TV out and don't miss it at all.

Deblee, I'm on the brink of joining you. Over 200 channels and I'm down to maybe 5 - and that depends on what program is on at any given moment. I confess, part of my unwillingness to send the thing to the dumpster is that my Apt. makes us pay for Cable whether we like it or not.
So... every time I turn it on (which is getting less and less frequent) I say a prayer that I'll be led to a godly program. Sometimes I'll catch a sermon on one of the public channels from a local church (which I listen to carefully to flip away from if anything heretical is perceived) and mostly am edified in fellowshipping with God.
I also really love to watch nature shows so I can revel with Him over the awesomeness of His creation. His witness is in everything! I especially enjoy how He demonstrates His keen sense of humor through animal's antics with each other and humans. And object lessons that I use in my witness.
Also enjoy the history channel (though have to watch with great discernment), especially when it concerns nations from Biblical times. It is a frustrating channel, though... what IS the obsession with UFO's and Nazi Germany? FLIP!
Um... well... that's about it. Sitcoms - out. 99% of movies - out. Politics - about 3 mins in and I'm just needlessly agitated and disinterested in the utter minutiae that they debate over. Same with the news - though if it's something that can be pertinent to end-times prophecy I'll watch.
But, like you I'm guessing, I try my level best to be sensitive to the Spirit's conviction should the TV ever become an idol to me again. He's tested me by doing without for 10 years, and I feel peace that I'm doing well. He knows my heart.
The reason I seek to remain sensitive is due to the freedom and deeper fellowship I enjoy with Him after forsaking other idols, like secular music and trashy novels - all to the dumpster and no looking back. I've found true purpose and joy in making Him my primary focus all day, every day.
Just speaking for myself, folks. The biggest surprise I've discovered is that God is perfectly willing and able to entertain us in His way and in His measure, a kind of extra benefit to "making my life a prayer to you." (credit: Keith Green).
