This late in the game if Biden either steps aside or the convention chooses someone else who would it be? I know that it would be Harris for the remainer of this term should it happen between now and Nov. 5th, but what about to replace him on the ballot?

Harris is a likely for the ballot, though no one really likes that option. However she is already on the ticket and can inherit Biden's war chest

When you say no one really likes that option are you meaning the convention or the voters? Harris has awful ratings herself and so would they want to have someone who has ratings worse than the one they already have?

I'm meaning she is not well regarded with voters so no one in the establishment really wants her as the front runner. However there are advantages to her since she is already a part of the process.

so if they want to win would they not want someone at least somewhat popular with voters. As the flip side to her being on the ticket already and having been in the vice prsident role is people already know what she is like policy wise and have stated that they do not approve of such.

Here is the thing though if people have never heard of him and he has say four months ( what it would be if he replaced Biden on the ballot today would people really go for that.

You may have a good pint there. He is also everything Biden is not.

But name recognition is an issue in a national campaign. No one has heard of him.

and if he has four months and is from the VERY red state of KY to boot it is likely that the more left-leaning democrats would not vote for him anyway. He may or may not have a better chance if he were from a purple state which KY is not.

Yes, hence part of the difficulty in replacing Biden this late in the game.

They might go for someone who can finish a sentence and a thought process, whoever it is.. Compared to the present candidate, who obviously can not do those things. Running Biden any further than right now, to me, is senile elder abuse. It doesn't matter if he wants it or not, he isn't capable of choices like that. He needs a care taker.

I've been through this with relatives, it looks so familiar to me.

Well, but who would have a decent chance of winning that people actually have heard of and the like. Harris may seem like a good choice, but with her ratings being worse than his and her already being in there ( meaning her ratings are not just low in a particular state) . There is also the issue of people feeling that unless he steps aside or is determined to be unfit to lead by medical professionals with the pramilies having already been held people may say well that is just not right to swich them ( particularly if it is with someone who is not very well-known. This would particularly be the case if they chose someone from a very blue state. I am not talking about someone like Newsome who is well known outside of CA I am talking about someone from a solidly blue state that is only really know in that state.

A big issue is the money Biden/Harris have collected for reelection will not be transferable to others. They could transfer $2000 of the 91 million they have on hand. But if Harris stayed in, she can use it all.

My guess would be Harris. Though not well regarded amongst voters, running against Trump is her best chance. So many are going to vote against Trump that the actual name on the Democratic ticket isn’t that important.

Joe Manchin has the Centrist viewpoint. All he has to do is come back to the party - he has the name recognition, but Biden is not and would not be gracious enough to release his delegates, nor hundreds of millions of dollars raised to help anyone but himself.

Another thing that just hit me really it is closer to three months left on the clock as I know that many states start early voting several weeks early. I know for example, in the swing state of GA early voting starts three full weeks from election day. It begins four Mondays before and closes the Friday before the election on Tuesday with at least one Saturday of polls being opened meaning that Georgians have at LEAST 16 days before an election to cast their ballots. I do not mean 16 calendar days I mean at least 16 actual days three full business weeks and at LEAST one Saturday more than that ( weekend wise) is up to the county).

but would Harris be a good choice if she has worse ratings than he does? In particular, sense she has been defending him up and down would she take the job without being forced to do so?

Some have mentioned Michelle and the convention is in Chicago. Newsom came up as well. I'm not a democrat or republican. But I think the duo could beat Trump.

~bella
You mean if they ran president and vice president as you mentioned them as a duo?
