  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Intrusive thoughts?

This sounds very insightful on your part. Good for you, for giving yourself time to think about it without turning to compulsions. It sounds like you are very aware, and learning to differentiate between your "sound mind" and your "OCD mind"! I pray that our good Father will continue growing you...

    Intrusive thoughts?

I understand. Our OCD brains do try to muddle us, and make us think and feel things that we don't really want to think and feel. Is doing random actions like the ones you mentioned above the same thing as taking the mark of the beast?

    what would you do?

How are you feeling today? I take Zoloft but it doesn't seem to have affected me a lot one way or the other, so I can't offer any opinions about it!

    Intrusive thoughts?

Yes, resisting the urge is the right thing to do! It's how we can work on any obsession, strengthening our "sound mind" and taking away the power from our "OCD mind," which makes us think in distorted ways. We have to practice ignoring the OCD mind in order to strengthen our sound mind. It's a...

    Intrusive thoughts?

Yes, this sounds typical of OCD. Here is a blog post about intrusive thoughts: Dealing with Unwanted Thoughts: A Christian Approach - Scrupulosity.com. If you click on the tag of "intrusive thoughts" on that post, it will pull up a bunch of related articles as well.

    Antichrist fears

The medication can help with symptoms, but I think that therapy and working on your heart and mind can address the root causes and lead to more long term changes. I would recommend going through some of Mark DeJesus' and Jaimie Eckert's materials, as well as other resources about treating OCD...

    Antichrist fears

Thank you for sharing! This kind of obsession is actually quite common for people with religious OCD. The way you are thinking and analyzing in more and more detail about your obsession is also typical. I don't know if you have delved into researching OCD and its treatment, but here are some...

    Struggling with scrupulosity

I'm not sure that accurately reflects the character of God. I love the image of Him as the father of the prodigal son, running to meet him. Also, OCD tends to put too much weight on our feelings. Here is an article you might find helpful: Faith and Feelings: A Critical Issue for Religious OCD -...

    Struggling with scrupulosity

Thank you for your response! Do you think that maybe your labeling yourself as a narcissist is also OCD, or partly OCD? We all struggle with selfishness, to varying degrees. I think perhaps something more beneficial than labeling yourself is to recognize that Jesus meets you where you are, and...

I am comforted to know that there are others like me - Now, what about salvation?

Two of my favorite resources about OCD are scrupulosity.com and Mark DeJesus YouTube videos. Scrupulosity.com has a helpful group coaching program, as well as loads of articles about different scrupulosity topics. Here is one:Why Do I Always Have Salvation Doubts? - Scrupulosity.com
