This is weird - is it legal? Instead of updating its website with news and instead of issuing press released, everyone now needs to check Twitter-now-X for information.

“The agency will be using X to communicate to the press and the public — formerly known as Twitter,” Linda Kerr-Davis, SSA Midwest-West regional commissioner told employees in a call Thursday, according to Federal News Network (FNN).
“This will become our communication mechanism,” she told reporters.
The shift comes as communications staff at the agency has dwindled due to reassignments in front-facing roles at field offices across the country. Officials announced that regional SSA offices would no longer have fully staffed public affairs offices as a result.
“If you’re used to getting press releases and Dear Colleague letters, you might want to subscribe to the official SSA X account, so you can stay up to date with agency news,” Kerr-Davis said, as reported by FNN.

Two big problems:
- people use Social Security's website to access their own personal dlsecure information. "X" isn't entitled to it.
- lots of people on Social Security don't use Social Media. Some of them don't even own cell phones or have email. So how can they communicate with the agency that provides--for some--every penny of their income (that they have earned through decades of payroll deductions.)earned

I'm not sure just what information is being moved to Twitter.

Is it just press releases and "Dear Colleague" letters and things from regional public affairs offices? If that's the case, I don't care.

This is not a problem if it's just press release information.

Key sentence there.

Communications mechanism. Not anything more than how they communicate. Don’t let the coming fear mongering take hold.

Communications.

They are broadcasting information to one of the largest global platforms in existence. The platform used by billions of people and whose articles are transmitted to thousands of media outlets

No huge conspiracy
No sharing or personal information
No access to individuals

Communications mechanism.

Pearls can be put away to clutch at another time.

A communications mechanism whose accuracy is suspect.
It's worse than that as this moves the repository of information away from SSA's own site. And for what? They don't own the information lodged there. Worse, this is forcing people to a social media site just for basic information. People who need this information will now have to go to X formerly known as Twitter on a regular basis just to be informed of updates to SS.

The SSA website is still working, I just checked and all my information is available there
