I've been spending the past two days watching Ezra Klein of the NY Times interview different people on this subject, and I think the reality is that the electorate has more ambiguity on many culture war issues than MAGA presumes.

That works both ways. The left has also been presumptuous. We have had significant cultural shifts over the last twenty years, and I'm here for it, but it wasn't as "real" as it seemed. Again, look at how quickly non-political institutions are changing their tune to fit the current administration's agenda. That is telling and we should take notice.

But... I do think that address was the most extreme and undignified display I've seen on television in my lifetime. Our country is on the brink of some kind of domestic unrest, I am afraid, similar to Italy in the 1970's. The center can't hold anymore, our country's sense of morality is too hollowed out and people don't know how to be civil anymore, they have rejected institutions and structures that could cultivate civility in the first place.

I'm sure we'll see some civil unrest, but I also think people are exhausted. Trump is exhausting, and this breakneck clip at which he's making changes will work against him. He only won because people on the fence were tired of the left. They will tire of this nonsense, too.

Cultural issues are a distraction from what we need from our government. Once the smoke clears and we have to live the results of Trump's hamfisted approach to change, perhaps people will come to their senses. One thing we need, if we do come to our senses, is more guardrails and restraints on the executive branch. The legislative branch has been missing in action for decades, and that has to change.

When Trump said the US didn't need legislation to cut back border crossings, they just needed a new president, Republicans roared and stood and clapped! They applauded him for saying he didn't need them! ^_^They're handing over their power to ride his gravy train.
We DID need a new president, to stop the bleeding. Now, Congress poseurs need to present a border bill ( like the one Schumer buried - HB 2 I think) to the president for him to sign.

Democrat politicians (not civilians, but the actual politicians) staged so much of a ruckus in the Capitol, the Sargent at Arms had to be called in to subdue them.
O my! any broken windows? Anyone insured?

I agree. But I don't think the current cultural shift is necessarily as decisive. I think the American public are becoming weary, confused, and apathetic, and the GOP are overreaching if they think there's been tectonic shifts in actual personal values.

Again, look at how quickly non-political institutions are changing their tune to fit the current administration's agenda. That is telling and we should take notice.

Most of whom always have been faddish and fickle, driven by perceived profits through ingratiating themselves to power.

Summer was seriously beaten, green waved his cane without hitting anyone.
Yes, I know. I wasn't being serious. It was satire. Is 168 years ago too soon for that? I wonder if Sumner and Brooks are still collecting Social Security payments.

Perspective: From DEI to Disney, the top 5 culture war battles of 2024

In his 2017 book “The Benedict Option,” Rod Dreher proclaimed that the culture war was over and people of faith had lost. That view has not been universally accepted. With the reelection of Donald Trump this year, some people have said that social conservatives won the culture war.

At the same time, a report on culture war issues released by the Polarization Research Lab showed that one issue frequently depicted as a culture-war battleground is actually more an area of agreement than is commonly depicted. More than 60% of Americans oppose allowing athletes to compete as a different gender than they were assigned at birth, with majorities of Democrats, Republicans and independents expressing this view.

There's further commentary on specific areas of the infamous "culture war" and where things might seem to stand. Here's my hot take:

Conservatives have won the culture war. They have won this ephemeral kingdom where popular opinion and corporate interests sway political support and power. DEI is out. Abortion is now against the law, in various iterations, in many states. The culture and the politics, which are always a construct of humans, have been achieved. Conservative Christians believe in this war, as if this ephemeral thing, culture and politics, is their faith. Here's my prophecy: In winning the battle of the culture war, conservative Christians have lost the claim to the kingdom and have lost a voice to speak on its behalf. The battle was been won, but the war has been lost. They have raised a golden cow with nothing but utter foolishness as its glory. Thoughts?

I can't oppose men in women's sports and then preach on Sunday?

I can't think that's not good enough for the kingdom of God?
You can think whatever you want but I can achieve things in the world and in God's kingdom.
They don't have to be mutually exclusive

Thanks for allowing me the privileged of thinking what I want. What doesn't have to be mutually exclusive, using bad means to achieve honorable goals? Sure, whatever works, right? My point is that what y'all thought worked, unsurprisingly, is working and will work against you. You can't depend on the devil to win and then think you won't have to pay a price, right?

Who is y'all that you're including me in?
And who is the devil in this case?
God used Pharaoh, he used Cyrus and he uses the devil
