Does Faith have a role in Justification ? Yes by all means, however
its not the cause of ones Justification before God, but the consequence of it.

Justified by faith (Ro 3:28)?

The elect were justified freely by His Gods Grace Rom 3:24

Through faith. . .(Ro 3:28)

No faith = no justification.

Sovereign (Jn 3:3-8) regeneration --> faith --> salvation --> justification (declared guilt free, forensic righteousess) --> sanctification (actual righteousness)

Case in point is Cornelius, He was already cleansed and justified before God prior to God sending Peter to him to preach the Gospel to him.

Cornelius was stated to be a Just man before he received the Gospel Acts 10:22

And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.

That word just dikaio is the same word that the promise is made Rom 1:17

For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just G1342 shall live by faith

Thats why the word of Faith, the Gospel was sent to this Just man !

The Just shall live by faith because God has promised to betroth them Himself in Faithfulness

Hos 2:20

I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the Lord.

The word faithfulness here is the heb word 'emuwnah

:firmness, fidelity, steadfastness, steadiness its the same word faith used in Hab 2:4

Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith

Behold the Faith, Faithfulness of the believer is the Gift of God. Are we the faithful in Christ ? Eh 1:1

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:

Then God be thanked for He hath brought to pass His word of promise to us Hos 2:20 I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the Lord

Notice also the outcome "and thou shalt know the Lord. This is from that Covenant Promise which Christ is the Mediator of Heb 8:11

And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

Jn 17:3

3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Does God count ones Faith as righteousness ?​

Rom 4:5,9

But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.

Folks many deceivers and spiritually unlearned have taken scriptures like these and stated that they are teaching that a mans faith is counted to God as their righteousness. However thats not true, those scriptures teach that the object of ones Faith [ Christ] is their righteous. God given Faith reveals Christ as their righteousness. Paul wrote 1 Cor 1:30

.30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

Now how does one come to know if Christ has been made their righteousness of God ?

God sends a Gospel message to them, wherein the righteousness of God [Christ] is revealed to their God given Faith Rom 1:16-17

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Now Faith cant be the believers righteousness when righteousness is being revealed to Faith, go figure !

Those who continue to believe and teach that a mans faith is counted righteousness, then they fall into the snare of teaching that men are made righteous by a work of the law, or obedience to the law which contradicts the scripture Gal 2:21

I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

Faith is Given to all whom God has imputed righteousness without works. In other words, all who have been accounted righteous for Christs sake will come to believe Rom 3:20-22

20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;

22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

The Faith of Jesus Christ !​

What is the Faith of Jesus Christ ? For example:

Rom 3:22

Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

Gal 2:16

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

Gal 3:22

But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

Contrary to what many believe and teach, the genitive phrase Faith of Jesus Christ is not speaking of the believers Faith, but of Christs Faith/Faithfulness. The word Faith in all three of these scriptures are genitive nouns meaning its Christs own Faith/Faithfulness in view. To be Justified by the Faith of Christ is simply being Justified by His Faithfulness or Obedience. Rom 5:19 points to that, its being made righteous by the obedience of one, that one being Christ.

Same thing in Phil 3:9

And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Gods Elect are made, declared legally righteous or Justified by Christs Faithful Obedience to fulfill all conditions needed before Gods Law and Justice in their behalf.
