No it isnt. Lying is knowingly saying things that are factually false. The future hasnt happened yet, and so theres nothing factual there.

You can lie in real time about your current intent tho. Pres Biden might have done that. Or he might not have and simply changed his mind over time.

Have you ever said you were going to do a certain thing and meant it, and then later thought better of it? Thats not lying.
yes it is lying...Biden lied

The kind of rigid thinking that is behind the notion that you can't change your mind if you've stated a position or plan publicly is a serious part of the problem in dialog on this site an elsewhere. I think the President had plenty of new information that might have made him reevaluate his position.
This isn't really a "change your position in light of new information" sort of thing is it? (with regards to whether not you're deciding to pardon your own family member)

Biden's own statement doesn't make it seem as if this was the result of new information, the statement he released was:
"No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter's cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son—and that is wrong."

That hasn't changed since this whole thing started.

If it was, then that would make things even more suspicious, because that means he learned something new/secret that sparked him to think "oh, I definitely need to make this case go away". That's an even worse look in my opinion.

Especially given the implications about what this could mean in the future for presidential family members.

The list of presidents that pardoned family members is a relatively short one.

Bill Clinton pardoned his half-brother, Trump pardoned his son-in-laws's father, and now Biden pardoned is son, I believe that's the only 3 in recent history unless I'm missing one.

But there is a key distinction here between Clinton's/Trump's pardons and Biden's

Clinton pardoned his half-brother on a drug charge, but that wasn't wildly out of step with the party's view, itself, as Democrats have long championed the cause of drug-law reform and ending the war on drugs and softening drug sentencing.

Trump pardoning someone for tax evasion and campaign finance laws isn't wildly out of step with the Republican talking points about taxes and campaign finance rules.

Biden's is at least somewhat unique in that it was pardoning something that his own party claims they want to "get tough on" which the aspect of guns/gun ownership.

...it'd be like if a republican pardoned a family who was running an illegal drag show.

I already have, multiple times in posts in this thread...

The announcement was made by the White House on Sunday night. The pardon applies to offenses against the U.S. that Hunter Biden "has committed or may have committed" from Jan. 1, 2014 to Dec. 1, 2024.

"Today, I signed a pardon for my son Hunter," Biden wrote in a statement. "From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted."

President Biden pardoning his son is a departure from his previous remarks to the media over the summer, declaring he would not pardon the first son.

"Yes," President Biden told ABC News when asked if he would rule out pardoning Hunter ahead of his guilty verdict in the gun case.

Days later, following a jury of Hunter’s peers finding him guilty of three felony firearm offenses, the president again said he would not pardon his son. ''

"I am not going to do anything," Biden said after Hunter was convicted. "I will abide by the jury’s decision."

Surprise?

"May have committed?"

Trump asks about 'J-6 Hostages' in response to Biden's pardon of Hunter: 'Such an abuse'

"Does the Pardon given by Joe to Hunter include the J-6 Hostages, who have now been imprisoned for years?" Trump wrote. "Such an abuse and miscarriage of Justice!"

"The failed witch hunts against President Trump have proven that the Democrat-controlled DOJ and other radical prosecutors are guilty of weaponizing the justice system," Trump's incoming White House communications chief Steven Cheung said in a statement to Fox News.

Ya, between Hunter and the J-6th insurrectionists about top be pardoned I think we can pretty much stop pretending there is justice for all.

a litany of the liberal talking heads and propaganda outlets lauding Biden for his refusal to pardon Hunter. Wonder how many will step up publicly and pronounce 'mea culpa'. Bet that number is less than 1.

Because none of it matters anymore. Seriously why should anyone care at this point? When it's pointed out nobody wants to listen, so who cares? More power to them. I hope you guys get everything you want from 47. EVERYTHING.

I actually find this whole thread hilarious!

I LOVE how conservatives find this kind of nepotism unacceptable.

And by "this kind" I mean, done by a democrat.

You havent explained a thing. You just repeat "its lying" and leave it at that.

I lay it all out for you in post #56. If theres anything specifically wrong with my thinking there, quote it and explain. If youre just going to say basically "no, hes lying" again, then dont bother.

I'll agree. Sure. It doesn't mean anything anyways.

Biden Lied.

But my question is this:

Why should I care about it?

Why? BEcause what....nepotism? That's rich.
He lied? He's a politician...is that in some way breaking new ground?

Hello Rambot. If a person's likelihood of being convicted of a crime is diminished by their social connections then your justice system is broken. And everyone can see that it's broken. God Bless You.

I wonder if Biden will pardon Trump? If so, I hope Trump says 'No thanks. I'll take my day in court'. That would really be something.
Trump willingly having his day in court really would be something, that’s for sure…

Justice system? Whose talking about "justice system"?
I am asking whether I should care.

Not sure how that's related.

Unless maybe you are suggesting that I don't care about Biden lying because I am politically "close" to him......

Some of those people have been jailed for nearly four years. One of them is a fortunate one. Can you spot the difference?

This isn't really a "change your position in light of new information" sort of thing is it?
It kinda is, given the guy just elected has promised to use the force of government against political rivals and is appointing a loyalist as head of the FBI. Kinda a "the GOP made him do it" sort of situation, which I guess shouldn't be surprising given how often we've similarly heard that Democrats existing are responsible for the GOP's bad actions.
