There’s a lot of overlap between “a winning attitude” and delusion. Work in the arts for a while, and you’ll see loads of people with winning attitudes who can’t understand that they don’t have the skills to cut it.

Trump knew that people wanted him dead, but he continued running for president. Even media pundits sarcastically stated that the only thing that could stop Trump was a bullet. I am glad they got that wrong too.
Most every prominent politician has people who want them dead. Nancy Pelosi had somebody break into her house and beat her husband with a hammer, and is still running for re-election. Do you valorize her similarly?

Seems to me we honor Martin Luther King Jr's life, and what he did during it, more than we do his death.
