Eunuchs in the bible

im puzzled by the meaning of the eunuchs in the bible and by what Jesus said some make themselves eunuchs. Is he talking about celibacy, or nuns and monks? Single people in general?

Theres the eunuch of queen candace who got baptised by Philip.
Modern day eunuchs? Is it only men or women are eunuchs as well?

Celibacy to be able to serve Him better.
I always thought the other 2 meant that either someone treated you so bad that you just can't marry anymore, it can also mean physical or that you were born like that.
I think Corrie ten Boom and Paul are a perfect example of cutting themself for the Kingdom. I don't think John was married either and he was at His bosom, no need to I think.

I once came across some research that a translator of ancient languages put together.
As I remember he said there wasn't any literature that definitively described what a eunuch in ancient times was. But from reading the context of
many many usages he felt the definition was much broader they the way it is defined today. Basically he felt that it covered almost all people who had sexual desires that were out of the norm as well has those who had not sexual desires either naturally or because they had had their sexual organs cut such that they didn't work anymore.

That would then cover men who had their testicles cut off as prisoners of war, homosexuals, cross dressers etc.

there were many slaves who were made eunuchs in the ancient world, so the Ethiopian Eunuch was an actual Eunuch

I think when Jesus talks about people who make themselves Eunuchs, He is talking about people who are celibate and seek to serve Him
remember, St. Paul recommended that if you are able to, you should stay unmarried.

Christians have always been against turning yourself into a Eunuch
the early theologian Origen made himself a Eunuch, even though he lived very close to the time of the Apostles and had a lot of good teachings, he also had a lot of bad teachings and when he made himself a Eunuch a lot of church leaders spoke out against him

I'd say yes. You don't have to be a castrated male to become a eunuch. If you're not married, have no children, and don't have sex with women, you have made yourself a eunuch.

I must be a eunuch then...i nver thought of it that way. But im not a nun, as not catholic. But i have nothing against nuns and monks. Some orders are very strict though.
Plus, dont make vows you cant keep, the same goes for marriage.

Only if you are totally sure God wants you to stay single the rest of your life.
One man heard from God that he had to do missions and stay celibate, a preacher in Holland. He got so used to being single, he liked it. Then when he was 45/50 or something God said: I have a wife for you.
Poor thing had to wait 5 years til he was ready for it.

I was thinking how Jesus said some ppl wouldnt understand. And its not often discussed, if somethings wrong with you that you may not be able to have children cos of abuse or something else....

Jesus had compassion but a lot of ppl assume just cos your single you are looking to get married, raise a family etc. people can be quite cruel in their assumptions that only married people are christians or that if you single that means you ugly and cant attract a spouse.
