Hey all, this lent I'm hoping to put extra focus into reciting the Jesus Prayer, and one of the most obvious and helpful steps to take in support of that effort is to get a good komboskini (prayer rope) to take wherever you go.
I've had a komboskini before, a great bracelet weaved by a monk at Mount Athos. Unfortunately, it was small enough that there was a considerable amount of stretch to get it on my wrist. Granted, this is wool we're talking about, no cheap material, but nevertheless overtime the strand between two of the knots got longer and weaker over time. The only time I took it on and off was before and after showering but soon it looked like it was close to breaking. I tried just not talking it off for a while but, again, it's wool, and it's not exactly absorbing crystal-clean water from the shower. Eventually I had to just keep it off.
Anyone have any tips on this little practical problem? One route I'm particularly interested in is getting a very large one, necklace sized, and then wrapping it multiple times around my wrist, as I've seen a friend do. That way there's no stretching involved. Ultimately though I'd like a simple small one that I can work around without a hassle while on the bus or waiting in line; that being said, I imagine many of you have had experiences with reputable places to get durable komboskini. Any advice would help.
Thank you! Forgive me.
