Barak was hesitant.8 Barak said to [Deborah], “If you will go with me, I will go, but if you will not go with me, I will not go.”
Barak missed the opportunity to demonstrate his bravery. He would be overshadowed by Jael (v. 22).9 And she said, “I will surely go with you. Nevertheless, the road on which you are going will not lead to your glory, for the LORD will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman.”
Judges 5:1 begins with two persons:Then Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh.
Then verse 3 shows first person singular:On that day Deborah and Barak son of Abinoam sang this song:
Verse 7 specifically mentions Deborah only.I, even I, will sing to a the Lord;
I will praise the Lord, the God of Israel, in song.
What was Barak's role in this song?7 Villagers in Israel would not fight;
they held back until I, Deborah, arose,
until I arose, a mother in Israel.
