To get into the mind of rabbinical statements and theology in its tradition, you have to understand that
It is to Jerusalem that the Messiah will come and
Notice that the Messiah will come and do the teaching of all nations to live under God's Law.
The prerequisite to the glorious future envisioned by Judaism is the rebuilding of their temple and a king, of the lineage of David, sitting upon the throne in Jerusalem. It is not a handful of visionaries only, but leading and influential (and well-funded) men who are preparing to rebuild the third Temple when given the opportunity. Rabbi Chaim Richman, of the Temple Institute, proclaimed that the members of the Institute wished to remove the Dome of the rock and the al-Aqsa Mosque so that the Temple of Solomon could be rebuilt... according to their plans, the Third Temple will be built. And to serve the Temple they are training priests in the Temple tradition of blood sacrifice... All the required implements, dishes, and other objects are also being created as the funds become available. Many Protestant groups have joined in this effort because they see it also a piece of the theological apocalyptic puzzle that must happen.
How we see the end days being fulfilled, is how we relate to it and which position we stand on the great stage of the last days. I am with Yeshua on this matter, "when you see all these things drawing close, look up". The belief that Jerusalem is crucial to the fulfillment of apocalyptic prophecies has caused this focused attention from all three major religions and all governmental nations fingers in what happens. It has become the center of this firestorm. But I have to ask.. Is that where Yeshua wants us to focus in on. I can see it as a sign of the times. But I do not believe I am to be drawn up into its arguments as Yeshua wants me to focus on my personal relationship with Him, and not be "religiously" or politically motivated at my eternal expense.
When Yeshua was on earth, His followers were looking for precisely what is now being promised in this end-time scenario... Israel as a world-dominant power, crushing all of her enemies, with God's help. The priests and rulers of Yeshua’s day first sought Him in hopes that He would lead the Israelites to victory over the hated Romans. Many, like Judas, quickly rejected Him when they realized that He had no such intentions.
“God first sends a blessing to Jerusalem, and from there it flows to the entire world.” Aryeh Kaplan, Jerusalem, The Eye of the Universe, (New York: National Congress of Synagoge Youth, 1976), 76.
It is to Jerusalem that the Messiah will come and
“redeem and perfect the Jewish people . . . [who will, in turn,] perfect the world around them, teaching all nations to live in peace under the law of God.” Michael Baigent, Racing Toward Armageddon: The Three Great Religions and the Plot to End the World, pp. 218-219.
