Doulas Adam's Salmon of Doubt says: "I've come up with a set of rules that describe our reactions to technologies: Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works. Anything that's invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it. Anything invented after you're thirty-five is against the natural order of things." Religious people tend to have a variation of this. My mother was dragged around from denomination to denomination when she was young and became irreligious due to the hypocrisy. Television was banned but the only person in the congregation that had one was the preacher's family. Video games are violent but John Wayne is okay. Rock music is the devil's music because of drugs and sex but country music with gambling, adultery and alcoholism is fine. Much later when my mother was studying with the JWs they was always warning her that the internet was Satanic. I told her to tell them about the Watchtower.org which was being put up at that time. They didn't believe me. I gave them the URL. Now they use the internet in their ministry and meetings. It's just silliness. Ultimately I think it should be up to the individual, but my own opinion on the subject has always been the same as the video below.
