The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was organized in New York on April 6th in 1830 by the prophet Joseph Smith after he had a vision. While in his early 20s he was instrumental in publishing the Book of Mormon. Although we are called Mormons we are actually members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and Mormon was an ancient prophet. Latter Day Saints refers to this time period. I am posting this to help clarify some misconceptions regarding the use of the name Mormon.

That is the way some people depict him. His true character is a hard working diligent prophet of God who restored the Church of Jesus Christ back to the earth.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints does see itself as a restoration of Christ's church, but in a different sense, and emerging from a different movement.
