The Navy really wants me, apparently.

I got about 6 basic propaganda pieces. A different one for each day of the mail-week.

Then they sent me a large pamphlet.

The week after that - a phone card.

The week after that - a VIDEO.

We moved to a different city recently. I checked my mail and lo and behold!

Not one, but two different navy pieces.

I get things from the Army National Guard all the time. They call me all the time, they send me tons of pamphlets, sometimes merchandise. I got a video once too! ;)

I always tell them that I'm not interested, but they keep sending me things, so I usually give them to someone, or throw them out. Sorry, the Army is not for me! ;)

I got jumped and kiddnapped by the Marines once. I was joggin down my street when this minivan hits the breaks the door opens up and these 5 big black dudes, HUGE marines, grab me, pull me in and start talking about joining the Marines.

Then I had two Army officers approach me while I was working in K-Mart back in the day.

Now that I actually work for the Navy, I still get recruited, lol.

I was in the mall last weekend and two sailors ask me what I plan on doing with my future.

I pulled out my Contractors ID card and told them and I qoute "Well, I plan on making more money than the both of you and actually doing something better with my time than shine my boots"

They're jaws dropped. :) I was quite amused by it.

from junior year till now (freshman in college) i got various pamphlets and letters from all branches of the military. lol. navy wouldnt leave me alone, they called all the time. quite amusing to me. i even thought about joining the army for a bit. i am very much not cut out for the military. they have a mold that they put you in to and i think that the people in the military deserve HUGE props, cuz what they do for the country is amazing, but sorry guys, its not for me. but ill always pray for our armed forces and maybe one day they'll get me, who knows. lol

The Marines used to always walk around my highschool trying to recruit us. I used to get phone calls almost every day, even after I straight up told them no. They stop for a while, then start again after first quarter of college (looking for dropouts). Now I just get mail from the Navy, trying to get me to join up as an engineer, offering me half what I'd make in anywhere else.

Dear Osel,
I think that if you really want to join, you should probably think about it carefully. With everything going on in Iraq, I'm afraid cuz they're sending my dad back for a 2nd time in a shrt while, and last time he was there, he had a lot of bad situations were he was being shot at, a few people he was working with were dying, and constantly being ambushed both by Iraqi men and big groups of kids. He wasn't even there to fight. He's an Independant Duty Corpsmen in the Navy and his rank is HM1. It's not just hard on my family, but also on his. My mom, grandma, and uncle were alwayz worried because they knew that he might not come back the same or come back aat all. But I thank God cuz he came back. He's changed a little both in a good way and not so good, but it's ok now.

Not just all that, but they seem pretty desperate because Marines would alwayz come to my Jr. High so they could try to recruit us. We were in Jr. High and they were trying to recruit 7th graders ! And now I'm walking around in the High School and now they seem even more desperate.

I also think it's really hard being able to get through boot camp. People who have been in it alwayz tell me how hard it was and how they would almost quit because it was too much. But if that's what you really want, I guess all you can do to make it easier, is pray. I hope I was some help:)

First off I would say before ANY final consideration in either way consult a friend of family member to go with you to a recruiters office to wage through the lies. Yes they will tell you all types of lies, deceptions and Lastly truth. I personally had a excellent time in the Navy, but the lifestyle wasn't one I wanted for a lifetime. The benefits outweigh the grudges no matter how extreme( some don't even have grudges). Not everyone Goes overseas its highly dependant on your Rate. You will never know what it is like until you go. And the pay will be better on the other side, but the experience is what you go for. I am 24 and been to over 12 Countries and lived in Japan for a year, with only a four year enlistment. I have a clear view of getting into what I learned my passion was for in the Navy and using the civilian counterpart as my career now. There are plenty of people I meet now who also say they wish they would have taken that step and joined, and they are being honest about it.

I knew a guy who served 6 years in the Navy enlisted and loved it. Got out, went to College and Siminary and then went into the Army as a Chaplain. He just got back from Iraq and he and his family are now stationed in Italy. He would tell you that both are great but everyones different.
