Yeshua said:
Matthew 5:5
Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.

The Torah states:
Numbers 12:3
Now the man Moses was very meek,
above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.

Moses was denied entry into the Promised Land
Deuteronomy 1:37
Also the Lord was angry with me for your sake, saying,
Thou also shalt not go in thither.

As testified in the Psalms:
Psalm 106:

32 They angered Him also at the waters of strife,
So that it went ill with Moses on account of them;
33 Because they rebelled against His Spirit,
So that he spoke rashly with his lips.

And yet Moses found his place in the kingdom
Matthew 17:3
And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.

The Testimony of the apostle Paul is that the inheritance
of the saints is a reward.
Colossians 3:

23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,
24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance;
for you serve the Lord Christ.
25 But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done,
and there is no partiality.

These things being so, the character of the saints displayed in
meekness and humility must be considered for the inheritance.
1 Peter 5:

5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder.
Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility:
for God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble.

6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God,
that He may exalt you in due time:

Was not Moses punishment because he struck the rock twice? Perhaps trusting more in his own works than the word of God.
Psalm 106:
32 They angered Him also at the waters of strife,
So that it went ill with Moses on account of them;
33 Because they rebelled against His Spirit,
So that he spoke rashly with his lips.
Numbers 20:
10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock; and he said to them,

“Hear now, you rebels! Must we bring water for you out of this rock?”
11 Then Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came out abundantly,
and the congregation and their animals drank.
12 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron,
“Because you did not believe Me,
to hallow Me in the eyes of the children of Israel
, therefore you shall not bring this assembly
into the land which I have given them.”

The narrative does state that he struck the rock twice, but the offense in failing to sanctify(hallow)
the Lord before the people was in the words he spoke. As if Moses and Aaron could bring forth
water from the rock!

1 Co 10:4
And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock
that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

7 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
8 Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.
I don't know exactly the source, or if I remeber it correctly, but my impression is that Moses once used the "strike" method or similar "wave of the wand" maneuver, to make things happen. However, here we can see that God told him to speak unto the rock, and for some reason, he struck it twice. This might seem petty, but this is the same problem the Jews have today.

The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.

Sing to the Lord, For He has done excellent things; This is known in all the earth.
Rejoice and shout, O inhabitant of Zion, For great is the Holy One of Israel in your midst!” Isaiah 12:5-6
