I missed the first plural "slaves".
When I read this, it seemed to me that the messenger was John himself. But not one translation agrees with this. I'm not afraid to disagree with everyone, but when I do I want to double-check my work. Am I missing something?

Hmmnnn...δουλοις noun: dative plural masculine

Okay sounds good
"by means of his messenger, his slave John:"

αγγελου The ending for the genitive singular form, -ου. This is given to help you identify the inflection pattern. Even within a single declension, there are various inflection patterns. Knowing the genitive singular ending is part of the key to knowing which pattern a particular word follows.
