I'm not a Catholic, but I was watching Mother Angelica and had a question about the titles Mother and Sister. What is the difference between the two titles? The only Mothers I've heard of are Mother Angelica and Mother Teresa.
I believe that "Mothers" are the Mother Superior of a convent - she is usually placed there because of her example of holiness, maturity, and wisdom. A "Sister" is under the Mother Superior (also can be known as an Abbess, I believe). I don't really know a lot about religious orders, classifications, etc., but that is my understanding.
