But I do believe in tradition! And what do you mean "didn't write their names there"? It's right there, man! ;)

If you don't believe in Tradition, how do you know Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were the one who wrote them when they didn't write their names there.

Honestly, for that matter, the gospels themselves are tradition. It is only through tradition that the gospels were preserved. Without tradition we would not have them at all.

Tell that to the folks who believe that everything has to be in the Bible.

If we are honest with ourselves the gospels were written by second or third generation Christians, not eye witnesses. The names assigned to these gospels came a century after the fact based on legend.
You mean like oral tradition?

The Gospels are living documents, in that, they have been a part of the Christian community their entire history. Give Christians some credit for knowing their own sacred text. Matthew and Mark have been brutalized academically and no one seriously questions that Matthew and John Mark penned their respective Gospels. Luke's authorship is sometimes questioned but it's rarely substantiated. There is a point of view that John's writtings were produced by a group rather then the apostle. One major problem there, John was well known pastoring one of the largest churches in the ancient world. It's unlikely so many Christians are going to read and make copies unless they could confirm John wrote it.
