That depends on the jurisdiction and exactly what sort of squatter's rights we're talking about. There's one threshold for them being afforded the same rights as tenants and there's another threshold for them being able to take ownership of the property. The former is usually on the order of weeks or months; the latter on the order of years.
Can you present one case where this has ever been attempted? If it has not ever happened then I would be surprised if carjackers start demanding rights equal to squatters, but they would first prove they are actually living in the car. It would be their mobile home.

I do. But if you leave a property vacant for years, long enough for someone to live there and qualify under adverse possession laws, then it doesn't seem you cared all that much about the property in the first place.
Depends on the jurisdiction, really. If you own property, and intend to leave it vacant and untended for a good length of time, you need to be aware of that. Part of the responsibilities of ownership, I'd say.
The lawful and easy solution is for people to lawfully lease and/or rent those properties from the property owners.
