A doctor at a field hospital for detained Palestinians at Israel’s Sde Teiman army base has described “deplorable conditions” and “routine” amputations due to handcuff injuries, according to an exclusive report from the newspaper Haaretz.

In a letter to Israel’s attorney general and defense and health ministers, obtained by Haaretz, the doctor said the conditions at Sde Teiman field hospital compromise inmates’ health and violate medical ethics.

“Just this week, two prisoners had their legs amputated due to handcuff injuries, which unfortunately is a routine event,” the doctor said in the letter, according to the Haaretz report on Thursday. He wrote that inappropriate care at the detention facility has led to “complications and sometimes even in the patient’s death,” adding that “this makes all of us – the medical teams and you, those in charge of us in the health and defense ministries, complicit in the violation of Israeli law.”

In a written statement to CNN responding to the claims, an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson said: “The IDF operates according to the law and within the framework of the law when it comes to the treatment of detainees. ... The handcuffing of the detainees is carried out in accordance with the procedures, their health condition and the level of danger posed by them, in order to ensure the safety of the forces and the medical staff.”

CNN spoke to a source who has a medical background and previously visited the Sde Teiman field hospital. They confirmed seeing detainees held in constant restraints.

The medical source, who spoke to CNN on Thursday on the condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals, said all the Gazan detainees they saw at the field hospital had all four limbs shackled, which the source said increases the risk of blood clotting and other health concerns.

I agree with the doctor's report. While both sides are at fault, the IDF has been extremely hard on people. Now, the Palestinian government needs to put Hamas in jail, but Israel needs to tell the IDF to cool it down as well. Seems that this hospital is run similar to a jail.

Alright, here is a summary of the CNN article, for those who are tired of seeing two countries fighting:

The article by Lauren Kent, published in CNN on April 6, 2024, reports on the deplorable conditions and "routine" amputations due to handcuff injuries at a field hospital for detained Palestinians at Israel's Sde Teiman army base. The article is based on a letter written by a doctor at the facility to Israel's attorney general and defense and health ministers, which was obtained by Haaretz News.

The doctor described the conditions at Sde Teiman as compromising inmates' health and violating medical ethics. He mentioned that two prisoners had their legs amputated due to handcuff injuries, which he called a routine event. The doctor also stated that inmates are fed through straws, defecate in diapers, and held in constant restraints, which violate medical ethics and the law.

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) responded to these claims by stating that they operate according to the law and within its framework, including the treatment of detainees. They also stated that handcuffing is carried out in accordance with procedures and based on the detainees' health condition and level of danger posed. IDF also claimed that violence against detainees is prohibited, and they protect their rights.

A medical source with a background who previously visited the Sde Teiman field hospital confirmed seeing detainees held in constant restraints and all four limbs shackled, increasing the risk of blood clotting and other health concerns. The source also noted that detainees were blindfolded and at least three patients they saw were wearing diapers.

The Sde Teiman field hospital was established by the Israeli military shortly after Hamas' October 7 attacks, as civilian hospitals declined to admit Gazan detainees or terror suspects. The Physicians for Human Rights-Israel report documented ethical failures at the field hospital, including the requirement that all detained persons remain handcuffed and blindfolded during medical treatment. The report also highlighted that security forces at the facility require detainees to remain restrained with their hands behind their backs for prolonged periods, leading to substantial physical and psychological harm.

Wow, this article is so full of holes I don't know where to begin.
1. Typical CNN anonymous source; that alone should send up red flags.
2. HANDCUFFS causing LEG amputations? When has anyone seen handcuffs big enough to encircle a persons legs? Leg shackles, OK. But they are different. Causing injuries around the ankles (especially if someone is violent and resisting) OK. But needing leg amputations for THAT? Does this guy normally work in a butcher shop? Any 1st year med student can recognize the signs of infection/blood poisoning/gangrene long before it would become necessary to amputate a leg because of ankle restraints.
I can't do any more. The complete ignorance of this article is simply astounding. Even more astounding is that someone would spend the time to read it and take it seriously. SMH till I am dizzy.......

Strapped down, blindfolded, held in diapers: Israeli whistleblowers detail abuse of Palestinians in shadowy detention center

CNN spoke to three Israeli whistleblowers who worked at the Sde Teiman desert camp, which holds Palestinians detained during Israel’s invasion of Gaza. All spoke out at risk of legal repercussions and reprisals from groups supportive of Israel’s hardline policies in Gaza.

They paint a picture of a facility where doctors sometimes amputated prisoners’ limbs due to injuries sustained from constant handcuffing; of medical procedures sometimes performed by underqualified medics earning it a reputation for being “a paradise for interns”; and where the air is filled with the smell of neglected wounds left to rot.

“They stripped them down of anything that resembles human beings,” said one whistleblower, who worked as a medic at the facility’s field hospital.

“(The beatings) were not done to gather intelligence. They were done out of revenge,” said another whistleblower. “It was punishment for what they (the Palestinians) did on October 7 and punishment for behavior in the camp.”

Another whistleblower said he was ordered to perform medical procedures on the Palestinian detainees for which he was not qualified.

“I was asked to learn how to do things on the patients, performing minor medical procedures that are totally outside my expertise,” he said, adding that this was frequently done without anesthesia.

It's hard to believe the Jews are NOT doing this on purpose because their border guards have often shot Palestinian boys at the knees to cripple them.

The Palestinians are being systematically crippled and ofc, harrassed and oppressed by Jewish occupational forces. This been happening for many many years before the Hamas attacked last Oct 7.

The Jews are not entirely innocent in the Oct 7 event. They provoked the Hamas/Palestinians to attack and they've been provoking them for many many years now.

Israeli detention center faces legal challenge after ‘unimaginable abuses’

Amid high-court scrutiny, hundreds of Gazan inmates were transferred out of Sde Teiman, a shadowy, military-run detention center in Israel’s southern desert.

Israeli authorities announced that they had begun transferring detainees to other facilities in response to a hearing held by the country’s Supreme Court on Wednesday, the first to challenge the legality of Sde Teiman. It was the latest move by rights groups to shed light on what they say is a legal black hole created after Oct. 7, allowing prisoners from Gaza to disappear into military custody.

“It looks like they understand that what they did until now cannot continue,” ACRI lawyer Roni Pelli said.

Israel has denied the abuse allegations and refuses to disclose the names, whereabouts and allegations against the several thousand Gazans it says are being held on its territory.

In the hearing Wednesday, the Tel Aviv-based Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) and four other rights groups petitioned Israel’s highest court to close the detention center, arguing that “egregious violations at Sde Teiman make depriving these people of liberty blatantly unconstitutional.”

Israeli army radio reported Monday that the military police had opened criminal investigations into the deaths of 48 Palestinians, most of whom died in detention or en route to a facility.

Last month, in response to another legal challenge, Israeli authorities said about 4,000 Gazans had been detained and about 1,500 released for lack of evidence — the first public accounting of the previously secret detentions.

Medical abuses are the choices being made there.

It's a shame they this hospital is looking like it's trying to approach Mengele.
