The following graph shows average debt in several category's. What is interesting is that
3 of 5 of these 'debts' have offsetting assets equal to or greater than the debt itself i.e. mortgages, student loan, and auto loans. Debts that have no or little appreciable value are credit card and medical debt. I was surprised at the low figures for student debt and medical debt. Maybe we're not as bad off as commonly believed. Of course these are averages and individuals may carry much more debt, such as medical students and students attending more prestigious colleges.
