Hillsong's concert documentary "Let Hope Rise" releases Friday, September 16th in US, early October in Canada. Initial pre-release reviews are generally favorable. It will be interesting to see how this is received in theaters. Songs with interviews and behind the scene footage. The songs have lyrics on screen, just like concerts, but how will that work in a documentary? Will people stand and sing? (Makes me think of Rocky Horror Picture Show LOL!) Participating in a theater feels very different to me than participating in a concert venue hall - but I guess some at remote video church sites do it regularly.

Trailer below. I became curious about this when I saw Hillsong United earlier this year and they were promoting the documentary before the show. Showed this trailer then.

Short review from the NY Times that I find to be what I would have expected. After essentially calling bible based lyrics "clichés", the reviewer fails to say anything about the movie and instead over three paragraphs, by tone and topic, makes it pretty clear he simply thinks it's all a façade. The final line was a bit amusing though "Hillsong — Let Hope Rise” is rated PG (Parental guidance suggested) for blinding heavenly light."

A more substantive review from LA Times.
