Gen 25,:23 God told Isaac's wife, Rebekah 'Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger."

The fraternal twins were born with Esau as the oldest then Jacob. When they were adults, Esau sold Jacob his birthright for red pottage.

Gen 27, Isaac blessed Jacob who presented himself as Esau. Jacob is blamed by Esau for stealing his birthright and blessing (which included wealth & the authority to rule the family).

Most everyone emphasizes what Jacob did aided by Rebekah to get the blessing. Most ignore their family dynamics. Esau knew what he was doing when he sold his birthright. He married women that caused his parents grief They wouldn't get gold stars for their parenting skills though.

More importantly,, what about what God said in.Gen 25:23? What God told her while she was pregnant? Of course, others say she was the deceiver and they don't believe God spoke to her. But Scripture states she asks the Lord and He answered her. Was she trying to get the blessing to the same son as the birthright? Did she have any responsibility in what God told her? (If we get a prophetic word that we will be going to another country to lay hands on the sick & through prayer believe that is God's plan, we need to get a passport). How could the elder serve the younger otherwise in that age?

Are you referring to this possible prophetic word? If so, always check the source. There is never a question when it actually comes from the Father.
Blessings.

I think God arranges circumstances in such a way as to bring His will to pass. As stated, in that culture the older was the next in line, yet Jacob became the object of God's blessing, not Esau.

Perhaps God put the blindness on Isaac, that made him susceptible to deception, thus allowing Jacob to make him the stew and receive Esau's intended blessing?

Or perhaps, acting on the word spoken to her by the Lord, Rachel knew what God's will was and acted accordingly in that situation.

Perhaps both worked together to accomplish His purpose. Good question :)

agree we're to prove all prophetic words ourselves (I Thess 5:20-21) & all the prophets I know believe that.

ByTheSpirit, thanks for your post,

Concerning what God said, I don't see Rebekah and Jacob being out of line as much as some others. In fact, don't recall Gen 25:23 being mentioned as they go on about what happened. Just my observations.

Of course, we've got Abraham & Sarah trying to help God. But God said they would be the parents of the promised son (Gen 17). So they messed up (25 years is a long time to wait!). Perhaps Rebekah knew Abraham, the ptomises God had told him, and first hand of their family's history. The twins were 15 yrs old when Abraham passed. They were adults when the blessing incident happened. Don't know how many yrs Rebekah had waited. Could have been longer than 25 years because Scripture about Esau being 40 and married is Gen. 26 & the blessing is Gen 27. But know it's not neccessarily chronological.

Even though they made mistakes God had plans for them. Thankfully, He uses us anyway.

Esau said Jacob took his birthright but he sold it.

Along with Esau, Isaac accused Jacob of taking the blessing. .But Isaac's blessing was in line with what God said in Gen 25:36. Just not to the son Isaac preferred.

Then Isaac blessed Esau and it included "And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and
it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck"
So just hang it there, Esau. It'll be yours.

"...as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.

For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears." Heb 12:

God knew this when He gave Rebekah that prophetic word.

In Hebrew, Jacob also means hell catcher, to follow. "And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob..." Gen 25:26.
