The Florida Bahamas Synod of the ELCA has a congregation in Freeport Bahamas, Our Savior Lutheran Church. As most are probably aware, hurricane Dorian was heavily impacting this area with over 200 mph winds and devastating flooding. The last communication with the pastor was Tuesday morning, our Bishop is trying to assess what damage has been done and how we can assist the community there.
Many congregations in the Synod will be taking special donations this Sunday that will be directed to this congregation that almost certainly has had severe impact on the people and building in Freeport. If you are able and in the synod, this would be a good way to assist recovery on the island. If you are not in the synod then Lutheran Disaster Response will be coordinating efforts, and possibly your pastor and congregation could take a special donation as well.
