Early decision means that this college/university is your number one choice of a college, and that if you get in, you will go there, and retract all offers from all other colleges. You would apply usually in November of your senior year, and know if you were accepted usually by March. Where as normal people would usually apply in March and know by June or something.

The college will either accept you, deject you, or hold your application to be reviewed at normal admissions times.

For most colleges, applying early decision means admissions rates have doubled.
i.e. Regular admissions at Yale accepts 13 percent of applicants, whereas early decision accepts 26 percent.

Let me know if I can help you with anything else....

Gee, is it obvious college is my number two priority right now? Heehee

Oh, and early action means that you would apply early, just like in early decision, but that you are not bound to go to that particular school if accepted. It just means you have your act together... i.e. taken SAT/ACT, have good enough grades, have already filled out applications and written personal essays, etc.
