A portion of our fertilizer comes from Russia - that's one reason, fertilizer is 4x higher to buy atm because of supply and demand.
With the sanctions on Russia, and the war in Ukraine affecting both planting and harvesting there, plus having a drought the previous year, there is a world shortage on wheat and oil in the middle east. This causes a supply and demand issue, especially with many countries like Hungary deciding to keep what grains they grow instead of selling to other countries.
Increased gas prices means increased costs of farming and shipping product as well.
As a result, the price of wheat and other grains is higher, I think it's at an historical high right now.
The historical high price is creating a situation where in the US, companies that normally buy product for processing - flour millers, farming cooperatives and more - aren't buying because they are worried they won't be able to resell at a profit.
Despite Robust Crops, US Farmers Cannot Sell Wheat Which Could Inflate Food Prices Further
Therefore, there won't be much finished product here to buy, which will drive prices even higher with a higher demand than there is product to purchase.
Pillsbury is already saying the best they will be able to fulfill this year is 80% of normal demand (when they normally fulfill upwards of 98 - 99%) for their finished products (biscuits, pizza dough etc) this year (up from the 70% they are at currently) because they are having severe issues getting the base ingredients (flour, oil etc) to run the products.

As this situation wears on, only growing more acute with time, and individuals begin competing with major companies for base ingredients, what's available will be very pricey.
So yes, even in the US there will be food shortages. Cows eat grain, chicken's eat grain.. This grain situation will affect everything - even dog and cat food.
We haven't yet begun to feel what's happening, but it is happening even here.
