Obviously by life I meant human life, but you raise a good question. I'm a very PC person, so I need to make sure I'm not associating with a bigot here. Does your idea that life has meaning apply to all life or just human? Does a cockroach or a bacterium's life have meaning? Why or why not?So who designed Yahweh and for what purpose was he designed?
So Yahweh wasn't designed for a specific purpose, and his existence is therefore meaningless?Obviously by life I meant human life, but you raise a good question. No He wasn't designed, but He's the ground and source of meaning. It's like asking if light is luminous. So Yahweh wasn't designed for a specific purpose, and his existence is therefore meaningless?
So it is possible to have meaning even if one hasn't been designed for a specific purpose? No He wasn't designed, but He's the ground and source of meaning. It's like asking if light is luminous.
Yes if you're God. But pretend there is no god and answer my thing. So it is possible to have meaning even if one hasn't been designed for a specific purpose?
That's special pleading. Why not if you are a human being?Yes if you're God. But pretend there is no god and answer my thing.
It's not special pleading. Man is a derivative, contingent being, God is not. Are you going to answer? That's special pleading. Why not if you are a human being?
It is special pleading. According to you, meaning depends on being designed for a particular purpose. According to you, Yahweh was not designed. Therefore...It's not special pleading. Man is a derivative, contingent being, God is not. Are you going to answer?
This is 4 posts now avoiding my simple question. C'mon Archie, don't make me lose any respect for you.It is special pleading. According to you, meaning depends on being designed for a particular purpose. According to you, Yahweh was not designed. Therefore...
We are talking about beings capable of contemplating their own meaning, no?This is 4 posts now avoiding my simple question. C'mon Archie, don't make me lose any respect for you.
My favourite analogy is the wolf pack; why don't the adult wolves eat their pups? Do they find more meaning in feeding them and protecting them than they do in a quick meal?Obviously by life I meant human life, but you raise a good question. Yes. I thought that much was obvious and didn't need spelling out.
You were a determinist, now you're a free willer extending free will even to animals? And you're saying a meal can have meaning? Does the later excretion of the meal have meaning too?My favourite analogy is the wolf pack; why don't the adult wolves eat their pups? Do I really need to spell it out further for you? We are talking about beings capable of contemplating their meaning, no? Is Yahweh such a being?Hello? I've got a can of Black Flag in my hand...looking at a roach...need an answer...
All we agree on is that there are beings capable of contemplation. Due to that, these same beings are also capable of imagination and fiction. One, we have no way of knowing whether roaches are the same, and two, even if they're not capable of contemplating their meaning, meaning could still exist for them. Physics still exist for them even though they may or may not be able to contemplate physics. So yes or no?Do I really need to spell it out further for you? We are talking about beings capable of contemplating their meaning, no? Is Yahweh such a being?

When did that happen? You were a determinist,
Is there a problem with that? How do you define free will?now you're a free willer extending free will even to animals?
The comparison was being made between a quick meal and the raising of offspring. Feel free to misrepresent what I say.And you're saying a meal can have meaning?
Does the later excretion of the meal have meaning too?
