• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Well actually, I'm on Prozac and have been for many years, when I was first put on it I was suffering both depression and to a minor degree OCD. After 3yrs I was taken off it to see how id cope with both issues, but found it had helped the OCD, which I don't suffer from now, but the depression got worse when I came off. Obviously it ended up me going back on it for depression but a lesser amount, but with me years ago it did stop the OCD.

hey, I put a thread in depression as well, but part of the reason they want to put me on it is for this. So I wanted to ask if any of you had been put on it before and would you mind letting me know what your experiences where? It'd be really helpful! Thanks

You definately will get there in the end, OCD isn't an overnight recovery, but following the right advice from specialists and by praying, you can recover. Be positive Love and you'll see.

thanks guys, it's good to have some input! I'm scared about taking the step which I know I may need to take, and scared to make the decision, but I'll get there in the end, need to do some more praying about it, but it can't hurt to try I guess!

I've been on prozac for about 13yrs. I was put on it as soon as I was diagnosed with OCD. It helped a lot for me. The highest dose I was on was 60mg per day, the lowest was 20mg. I am on 40mg per day now, and that seems to be the best for me.

Let us know how you are doing.

I was put on Prozac and Geodon for depression, my OCD was not acting up at the time but I'm off Prozac now and the OCD is acting up. I guess the prozac was helping. I'm on Lexapro now and it helps with depression. I am also under a lot of stress now from my father's death and proceedings going on so maybe that's why the OCD started back up, too. It could be many things that started it up. I also reduced the Geodon but went back to the regular dose right away. Am feeling strange and fearful of the OCD going beserk on me again. I hope you are lead to the right decision for yourself.

Yep! I started with Prozac.. and my psych. kept raising the dose. Eventually, after my grandma died, the medication seemed to stop helping, and they decided to try different medications. Nothing worked, so they tried prozac again. It worked again and I've been on it ever since.

The highest I've been on was 55 mg, i'm on 20 mg now
