No Sickness Comes from God

Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. Most of the work of Christ was healing the sick. Jesus attributes sickness to the works of Lucifer when He says in Luke 13:16, Ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? He didn’t say, “This woman who hath a love-token from the Lord should be grateful for it.” He didn’t stoop down and whisper, “Dear lady, you with arthritis crippling you until you cannot stand upright, it’s the will of the Father for you to be like this. He sent me to let you know it’s His love-token.” No. Jesus set her free; He healed her. That’s love; that’s God’s love. She was made whole.

Made a study on just this a while ago: Verses on Disabilities or Struggles (Gen 3, Romans 8, John 9, Isaiah 41)

DateApril 27, 2024
VerseGenesis 3:1-5: "Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, ‘Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?’ And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’ But the serpent said to the woman, ‘You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.’"

Genesis 3:17-19: "And to Adam he said, ‘Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you,‘You shall not eat of it,’cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.’"

Romans 8:20-23: "For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies."

John 9:1-3: "As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. And his disciples asked him, ‘Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?’ Jesus answered, ‘It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.’"

Isaiah 41:10: "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
ExplanationThe first two passages from Genesis describe the fall of humanity, specifically Adam and Eve's disobedience to God's command in the Garden of Eden. The serpent, who represents Satan or temptation, deceives Eve by questioning God's word and promising her that she won't die if she eats the forbidden fruit. Instead, she and Adam experience consequences such as physical toil, pain, and death. These passages highlight the entrance of sin and suffering into the world.

The last three passages from Romans, John, and Isaiah speak to God's presence and redemption in the midst of suffering and hardships. In Romans, Paul describes creation as groaning with us as it waits for redemption. John's passage about the blind man illustrates that God can bring good out of difficult circumstances, and Isaiah reassures us that God is always with us and will help us through our struggles.

These passages relate to disabilities in several ways: 1) they acknowledge the presence of suffering and hardships in our world, including those related to physical, genetic and developmental differences; 2) they offer hope for redemption and restoration through God's power and love; and 3) they remind us of our need for dependence on God in the midst of life's challenges. The Genesis passages may not directly address disabilities, but they lay the foundation for understanding the brokenness and need for redemption that exists in all aspects of creation. The later passages from Romans, John, and Isaiah offer hope and encouragement for those living with disabilities or facing any form of suffering. These passages emphasize the importance of empathy, compassion, and understanding for all individuals, regardless of their abilities or circumstances.

I think you misunderstand. Everything is in God's control, whether Satan, sickness, or human choice.

Exo 4.11 The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord?

God may allow Satan or demons to afflict men, whether to test them, to chastise them, to judge them, or to allow them to suffer as innocent victims. But God's purpose towards the godly is good. And Satan is limited to what God allows him.

Job 1.12 The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.”

There comes a time when Satan wants to completely destroy men, whether they are flawed or weak and vulnerable. But God will not let him fulfill his ambitions.

Zech 3.2 The Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, Satan! The Lord, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is not this man a burning stick snatched from the fire?”

Amos 7.4 This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me: The Sovereign Lord was calling for judgment by fire; it dried up the great deep and devoured the land. 5 Then I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, I beg you, stop! How can Jacob survive? He is so small!”
6 So the Lord relented.

John 11 4 " No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.”

It is clear why God allows things to happen. This is the biggest complaint people have with God is why does He allow what He allows.

Why did Paul boast in his infirmities? Why did he tell Timothy to drink a little wine for his often infirmities? Why does Romans chapter 8 say that pestilence can't separate us from God's love? Please realize this chapter is teaching us we that we will face great hardship and not have good health necesarily. Indeed we are sheep led to the slaughter.

Jesus did physical miracles as a sign but in my opinion the real promise is spiritual healing. Jesus said that the sick need a physician and he refers to sin and spirital blindness but not physical illness.

What we do when promising physical healing is destroy people's faith. They end up thinking that their faith is false because they dont get physical healing. They torment themselves instead of growing in grace. Paul said that God's grace was sufficient for his infirmities. I have mental illness or spiritual warfare. I'm OK. God loves me. My body is old and run down. Its ok.

John 11.4 only explains one particular cause for someone's suffering. It is not a complete list of reasons for suffering adversity. But certainly, it is one cause.

Yes, suffering seems to happen arbitrarily sometimes, and is such a test that we tend to throw up our hands and surrender to our fate. It is an incredibly hard thing to go through no matter what it is.

This is where our metal is tested. And I pray the best for anybody going through troubles when they are believers. Well, I feel sorry for anybody, believer or not, who go through difficult times, particularly when they seem to be the victim and not the antagonist.

Your premise is incorrect.

And then He healed him - the premise is quite correct.
