WHat do you want to be saved from when you first believed in Jesus? It seems to me that when many people said they believed and get saved, they usually just wants to be saved from hell only. Do you just want to be saved from hell when you believe, or do you want to be saved from something else?

I am not a baptist (Catholic guy here), but I want to be saved from my sins, and live in a Godly manner. For me, I want to be saved towards Jesus and help others walk a Christian life. :)

Honestly, I loved and still love Jesus Christ of Nazareth which is why I seeked Him. So I was saved from my ignorance. Not knowing who He really is and that His Holy Spirit could dwell in me left an emptiness but now, I am filled.
I believe salvation avoids the " second death" because I am now " In Him" and He is my advocate.
Blessings

Hello @thejoshbro, what did I want to be saved from 37+ years ago (on the day that I finally came to saving faith)? Well, I had no desire to face the wrath of the Almighty in the age to come (so there was that, of course), though the Lake of Fire was (oddly) not my principal concern on that day (11/2/86). Rather, being forgiven of my sins in the here and now was, because I had begun to believe that forgiveness was off the table/no longer possible for me (because of the increasingly sinful life that I had been leading for several years at that point, even though I knew all along that it was wrong to do so).

At some point along the way I also began to feel guilty all the time (because of my many sins), so I wanted to stop sinning (I just didn't know how to). I actually had a GREAT life back then (by the world's standards, an enviable life, in point of fact), but even in the midst of doing everything that I wanted to do, and having nearly everything that I wanted to have, I began to feel an emptiness (like @Maria Billingsley described above) and I began to wonder (in the midst of everything going my way) if this was all there was to life!

Just FYI, I was baptized as an infant and raised in the church (so to speak), and I loved it (for the most part). I went to Sunday School, sung in the choirs (childrens and adults), was confirmed, went on retreats, and I went to church regularly, you know, the whole 9 yards, until college, that is (when I walked away from church and into the world). This is why/how I knew something of God and also what He expected of me. Still, I always "thought" that I was a Christian (why wouldn't I have), until the day I actually became one, that is :)

That's when EVERYTHING changed :amen:

So, I wanted to be saved from many things on that day, from the penalty of sin, from the weight of the guilt that I was feeling (because of my sinful life), from the sense of emptiness/meaninglessness/hopelessness that I had begun to feel about my life, and about life in general, and also from my seeming inability to stop sinning (IOW, from the sway or power that my sinful desires clearly held over me in this life).

How about you? What were you looking to be saved from on the day that you became a believer?

God bless you!!

--David
p.s. - I'm sorry that this ended up being such a long post, but I actually have one more thing that needs to be said here (since I just noticed that you are a new member).

WELCOME TO CF

1 Thessalonians 5
23 May the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and
body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.

I wanted to be saved from alcoholism and drugs, and from meaninglessness.

Recently, I have reached level 10 in my life... I am riding on a cloud of bliss. It's been years of prayer, meditation, changing my approach to develop my character... I have changed a LOT.

And now I just want to say... change ONE word in your vocabulary and watch the whole world shift.

Recently I was trying very hard to make something happen but instead I decided to replace the word "rap" with "passion." That's when I realized, I am already living my dream... I have gone from "pastime to passion." And that's all I wanted to say.

Change one word in your vocabulary and watch your world change.

God is great and he is always available in prayer and Scripture and meditation. Amen.
