If you have to force people to follow the Faith, then they aren't saved.
If they aren't saved they are going to hell.
If they are going to hell for eternity, then the good they receive in this life is the reward for any good they have done.
There is a balance to be struck between people having a little liberty to learn from, a liberty given to them by God no less because the lessons can lead people to Him, and the best ordering of society.
In America we are trying to find that balance.
But the church is a separate entity from the state. The state is the world, the church is Holy.
