Hello! I am considering various Christian denominations, it is important for me that they are conservative and traditional (one might say fundamentalist)

Are there any churches that are more conservative and fundamentalist? If yes, which ones?

Can you tell me more about this?

You have used the terms 'conservative' and 'traditional' and 'fundamentalist' as if they were somewhat equivalent terms. But they're not always. For example the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Churches are not fundamentalist but they are traditional. And the Catholic Church is 'liberal' on things like the death penalty but 'conservative' on abortion. So are we liberal or conservative? Does politics determine things here, or the Gospel?

What are you really looking for? There are liturgical and non-liturgical groups. There are groups that consider that charismatic gifts continue and others say those have all ceased.

And then there is the consideration that it shouldn't be that a place checks all of the boxes YOU or I determine, but that we learn to check all of the boxes that God wants us to check in our own spiritual development. Where is the place for us to be discipled. Not where we are most comfortable.

I can tell you about conservative and fundamentalist churches here in the US, but your profile says you're in Ukraine. Is it of any use to you if I list names like Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod or Southern Baptist (both American denominations)?

Picking up on @chevyontheriver 's thoughts: If you want conservative and traditional, in the sense of conserving ancient Christian faith and practice, then the Orthodox churches and the Catholic Church are the obvious choices near you in Ukraine.

"Fundamentalist" tends to mean a kind of Protestant (in particular, a branch of American Protestantism that grew up in the early 20th century), so if you're looking for that, the answer would be different.

In any case, it's interesting to know

Are you asking about churches because you're seeking a church for yourself in which to worship, or are you a student looking for help with a school assignment? I'll answer the questions either way, but -- putting my professor's hat on -- make sure to cite the Christian Forums web site as a source in your paper (clearly marking and attributing any quotations) if this is a school assignment.

Denominations on the conservative side of the 19th/20th/21st century American Protestant schisms include:

Lutheran: Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod

Baptist: Southern Baptist Convention, Venture Church Network (formerly the Conservative Baptist Association of America), General Association of Regular Baptists

Reformed: Presbyterian Church in America (not to be confused with the PCUSA), Orthodox Presbyterian Church

Anglican: Anglican Church in North America

You might find the Wikipedia page on the Fundamentalist-Modernist Controversy (Fundamentalist–modernist controversy - Wikipedia) to be useful in your research. It gives a reasonably good overview of the history of the controversy, with a list of books and articles at the end for further reading. Once again, if this is for an assignment, cite your sources.

Y'know, PloverWing, I appreciate your frequent insights here on CF. I bet you're one heck of a professor at your university! :glowingstar:

There are various spectrums for determining the relative liberalism and conservatism of various Christian denominations. For example, one can use the original Five Fundamentals of the Presbyterian Church as one means to make that determination. Or, one could easily pose the question regarding the veneration of Mary. Our Catholic friends probably believe that their denomination is assuredly the most conservative on this issue. Each and every denomination has a complete grab bag of theological beliefs which may, or may not be, considered to be conservative or liberal, depending upon one's own perspective.
