Voting rights cases out of Florida and Texas handed important victories to the GOP.
Texas: Court rules Texas didn't make it harder for young people to vote (which would be unconstitutional), they just made it easier for old people to vote!
Such a move, according to the Fifth Circuit, is fine. The decision in Texas Democratic Party effectively holds that age discrimination is acceptable under the 26th Amendment, just so long as a state doesn’t enact a law that makes younger voters worse off than they were before the law was enacted.
SCOTUS is cool with that.

Supreme Court rejects challenge to vote-by-mail restrictions in Texas

Seven states – Texas, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee – allow older voters to request an absentee ballot for any reason but let others do so only under certain circumstances.

The court on Monday declined to hear an appeal brought by three voters in Texas, just as it rejected a similar challenge in 2021 to Indiana’s voting rules.

hmm

are we saying that a state cannot provide benefits for only seniors? Should it be illegal for the DMV to have seniors hours between 8 and 9, or a special line for seniors?

Should it be illegal for a state to have lines on Election Day only for those in wheel chairs? or those over 65?
========
And the most obvious, should Medicare be forced to provide coverage for those under 65?

I don't know the ins and outs of the law, but voting is not a benefit or an 'entitlement', but rather a right for all citizens of voting age. Perhaps we can restrict handgun purchases at gun shows to those over 65.

eh, not really. The constitution only puts limits on the restrictions on voting (i.e can’t ban someone because they’re a woman, black, etc). It doesn’t affirm a positive right to vote.

OK, let's do the reverse.

Is it OK to have 2-3 lines with no seating, food or water available. Does, this abridge the rights of the elderly, the handicapped?

Let's be more clear.

Is it Ok to have a special line for those over 65 on Election Day? Surely, this puts those under 65 at a disadvantage.

Is it OK, for a voting district to have workers come to the car to help someone to vote (handicapped or those who can't stand in line)? Clear this discriminates against healthy 21 year olds.

Is it OK to have voting at the Senior Center on Election Day for seniors only?
==========
WHO ARE WE ALLOWED TO FAVOR IN ABSENTEE VOTING RULES?
handicapped?
elderly?
military?
=============
I'm an old fogie, but I believe that there are many, many ways that the government discriminates in favor of the elderly. IMO, the Supreme Court chose NOT to step in and allow the start of hundreds of cases where the elderly are favored under the law.

I don't think whatever point you're making is clear.

The 'but' suggests that you disapprove of this favoritism [?]

The Supreme Court is afraid of a slippery slope fallacy? Because they are not smart enough to issue a narrow ruling?

I'll be more clear.

I believe that a state has the right to allow for aids to voting that help the elderly, even if they don't extend that same aids to everyone. I also believe that a state can provide rules that favor certain groups. For example, because of age, I am not required to serve on a jury. At a certain age, I am no longer required to pay sales tax. I can have an absentee ballot, but I am not sure that there are age-specific rules.

And I believe that SCOTUS agree with all of these rules, which have been tested many times, in many ways.
