The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.
If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.
If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I agree in always keeping some kind of sound going. Has anyone ever gone to a doc for their tin? What kind of tests do they do?
The problem with not checking if you can afford it is it could be something else that could mean a loss of hearing like mastoiditis, etc.
Blocking out seems to be the definitive answer for most except for those with screaming loud noise.I spoke to my hearing doctor about my tinnitus. She can't do anything for it. I'm stuck. Mostly I just block it out.
I don't remember ever not having it. I've always attributed it to the fact that my family's being in the music business meant that I've been going to concerts since I was about 1 year old, though I don't know if that's what actually caused it. It is annoying, though. As others have said, I try to mask it by avoiding silence. Sometimes it gets pretty bad, but usually it is manageable, if still noticeable. I've tried OTC medications, but none seem to do anything. One thing I have noticed, and apologies in advance if this is too gross, is that if I make an effort to get to the doctor to get my ears professionally flushed out, it tends to be better in the immediate aftermath of that for at least a little while. I've read up on it a bit and apparently build-up in the ears can make it worse, so that might be something to look into if it seems to be getting worse without any external changes to stimuli.
